The weather is getting warmer, and unless you're allergic to pollen, it's a great time to be outdoors. I've gathered three fun things you can do with family or friends this weekend, all of them very kid-friendly.

Ride an Amish buggy

There are several local companies offering private Amish buggy rides, Abe's Buggy Rides being one of them. They have five different rides to choose from. Here, you will pass several Amish farms, an Amish one-room schoolhouse, and other sites dating all the way back to the 1700s. Abe's has been in business since 1968 and is known for taking authentic rides throughout the stunning farmland Lancaster has to offer.

Bike or walk a Rail Trail

In the northern part of Lancaster, you'll find the Warwick to Ephrata Rail-Trail. This trail extends over 7 miles through villages, farmland, as well as forested areas. The trail has 8 access points with parking and also some restroom stops along the way. If you decide to bike the whole trail, start to finish, you'll get to see both historic downtown Ephrata and Lititz, both of them beautiful small towns.

This trail is very popular for walkers and runners and bicyclists year-round.  The trail features a mild grade running across paved and unpaved sections. If you're up for a workout in the beautiful scenery, this nature experience is just what you've been looking for.

Try catching a fish

Lancaster, PA, believe it or not, has several places where you can go fishing. One of my favorites is Speedwell Forge Lake, a 106-acre impoundment owned by the state and managed by the Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing. This lake is a popular spot for fishing, as well as for people using un-powered boats such as kayaks.

There's also a pavilion with picnic tables available for use, so make sure to bring some food while enjoying the peaceful area. Depending on the season, you might find portable restrooms on-site.
