Whenever I am finding myself in the heart of Ephrata, PA, I usually stop by Scratch Bakes. After a wonderful first-time experience last year when they told me as I was about to pay: "Someone already took care of your bill", I have been back a few times.
Simple and delicious
Just the other week, my husband and I had a little extra time on our hands, and were able to enjoy a meal dining in at Scratch Bakes. Whenever I find something I love on a menu, I stick to it.
Here, it means their everything bagels and oat lattes. It is easy, filling, and delicious.
This adorable bakery on West Main Street is hands down my favorite spot in the heart of Ephrata.
From home cooking to bakery
The mastermind behind Scratch Bakes is Laura Will. Scratch Bakes LLC officially started out of her kitchen at home, with nothing but her mother's Kitchen Aid mixer and an oven. Word got out that Laura were making the most amazing sweets, and at times, there were cars lined up down the street to pick up decorated cupcakes, cakes, and other baked goods.
A decade ago, the original Scratch shop opened at the Brickerville Specialty Shops, in Brickerville, PA. Within a year, the business quickly outgrew the 800 square foot facility and needed to be moved once again. Luckily there was a location available on 3 West Main Street in Ephrata, PA, and this is where you will find them today.
I'll end with the quote priding the wall at Scratch Bakes:
"People who love to eat are always the best people" - Julia Child
