Chestnut Hill has become an attractive neighborhood in Lancaster City. If you take a peek at the real estate market in this area, you'll see homes going from "coming soon" to "pending" within just a few days. This area is a walkable, well-kept residential neighborhood in the heart of the city.
Although it is mainly residential, several local businesses have chosen to set up shop in this area. Thistle Finch Distillery, a distillery located in what was formerly the Walter Schnader Tobacco Warehouse. Built at the turn of the 20th century, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
There's Lemon Street Market, Dogstar Books, Callaloo Trinidadian, Splits & Giggles, Brendee’s Irish Pub, Flora’s, and more.
I've previously mentioned Chestnut Hill Cafe, an authentic neighborhood cafe and gathering spot. You'll also find North Museum of Nature and Science, Franklin & Marshall College is fairly easy to walk to if you find yourself in Chestnut Hill.
Chestnut Hill is a popular neighborhood name, and only in Pennsylvania, you'll find several going by this name. In addition to Lancaster's version, you'll find Chestnut Hill in the following counties: Dauphin, Erie, Lehigh, Northampton, Philadelphia, and York County.
Perhaps I'm biased, but I absolutely love walking around in Lancaster's very own Chestnut Hill. Seeing the old, historic homes and small businesses side by side is unique. The parks, the stunning churches, and the architecture are just some of the things that make this area desirable.
