First built as a farmer's market in the late 1800s, the city's historic Southern Market has received a significant renovation after being closed for decades. Now, it's a modern and trendy spot, with the soul of the building intact: A place you visit for good food and good talks.
Lancaster Southern Market features several local restaurant startups and is all about celebrating the beautiful culinary diversity the city offers.
I has such a hard time deciding what to eat, but ultimately I landed on Flavors of Morocco's Tikka Masala, pictured below. With a true love for cooking, Chef Bushra Fakier makes authentic Moroccan-Indian fusion foods that are delicious and healthy. Every dish is prepared with local and fresh products, seasoned with authentic spices and herbs. It tasted outstanding.
For dessert, I had one of the best macarons I've ever tasted. Savory Truffle Cakes, one of the vendors, is really known for their party cakes locally. Brittnie Jones runs this spot, and you might have seen her at events, bringing the best of desserts.
Jones is a self-taught baker, and always greets you with a smile. The macaron I ordered, a large one, had a vanilla crust, with chocolate and marshmallow filling. There was also a sweet, nutty, taste to it. So, so good.
I'm definitely coming back for more.
In addition to several local food vendors, Southern Market features a central bar and coffee shop, co-working desks and offices, meeting spaces, retail, and community rooms.
This is an iconic gem, wonderfully brought to life, with lots of food.
