BIRMINGHAM, MICHIGAN-- Located just 30 miles North of Detroit, Birmingham is getting a new 151 room hotel. Daxton Hotel is the first hotel by local entrepreneur Mark Mitchell in partnership with Aparium Hotel Group and is the newest property in its award-winning portfolio. Mitchell is a local entrepreneur and lifelong Metro Detroit area resident. The hotel brings a modern vision of Birmingham luxury by incorporating some of the finest art, wellness, dining, and retail.
According to Mitchell:
We are excited to show travelers the very best of Michigan and beyond in a market worthy of a world-class hotel. Daxton will set a hospitality standard far beyond the Midwest and it is an absolute privilege to deliver a project that will be an important aspect of Birmingham’s fabric for generations to come.
The new building on the city's iconic old Woodward Ave features an awe-inspiring design with over 400 pieces of cutting-edge art. The art has been curated by world-renowned Saatchi Art, creating a portfolio of mixed media that brings whimsical and energetic details. Spaces throughout the hotel are flooded with vibrant colors. The lobby for instance, is chartreuse. There are deep burgundy guestrooms, and lavender parlors, an ideal juxtaposition with the art collection, avant-garde architecture, lighting, and furniture designed in bold shapes. The artwork crosses multiple mediums including paintings, photography, collage, drawing, and sculpture. It features some of the best international national and regional artists, totaling 160 artists representing 40 countries.
The executive chef of the hotel's flagship restaurant Madam is Garrison Price. The restaurant will serve what Chef Price calls “enlightened American fare” with a menu focusing on seasonality and the freshness of California cuisine. The restaurant will seat up to 80 guests illuminated by an expansive custom-made chandelier and oversized windows. Chef Price has over 20 years of culinary experience, having served as executive chef for three years at Manhattan's iconic IL Buco Alimentari e Vineria, and served us culinary director for Jean-Georges Vongerichten, as well as executive chef for Jose Andres.
Madam serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Menu standouts include brioche French toast for breakfast or brunch, Flatiron steak for lunch, and dry-aged duck for two for dinner.
Daxton Hotel has its very own personal trainer on staff in conjunction with Michigan's lean body studio. Private training sessions and interactive events such as brunch and burn, bring guests together who share the same love of fitness. The property also has its own running club through Gazelle Sports.
Guest rooms come complete with a customized tote exclusively made for the hotel and inspired by an internationally sold-out design. Guests can utilize the Daxton tote as their personal shopping bag during their visits to the elegant shops of Birmingham. Guests can also indulge in the hotel's pillow menu.
