PORT ARANSAS, TEXAS--Let the crowds have their fun on the beach during spring break. You can outsmart them all by saving your beach break for Easter. We went to Airbnb looking for vacation rentals with room for the family, and sometimes even the dog. What we found was a wide range of condos and cottages-- some of them right on the beach. And with most well under $200 per night, you'd have a hard time even booking a cheap highway hotel for the family at that price.
For the uninitiated, Port A is the quieter beach destination near Corpus Cristi, usually favored by locals and retirees. One of the secrets repeaters know about Port Aransas is the lower hotel-motel tax rate. You will pay only 13% on your vacation rental in Port A. It's 15% in nearby Corpus and in Galveston, and a whopping 17% in South Padre.
The Port A beach consists of a lovely, unbroken stretch of sand, suitable for plenty of separation. Let's dive into our rental possibilities.
Driftwood Delight
This adorable 2-bedroom, 1-bath raised condo has room enough for six. Amenities include Wifi, cable tv, dishes & cooking ware, towels & linens, a full-size washer & dryer, charcoal grill, and community pool. It's a walk to the beach, or load up and drive closer to save the hike. With rates as low as $188 per night for a family of 4, it's a sure winner.
Island Retreat 20
This charming condo sleeps up to 4, with one bedroom and one bathroom. Its position in the complex makes the walk to the beach a breeze over the boardwalks. The listing is relatively new, with no reviews, but the host is experienced so you can rest easy on the booking. It also offers a flexible cancellation policy-- an important concern during these trying times. The rate is an astonishing $178 per night for a party of four.

Buried Treasure
You'll think you have sailed to the Caribbean when you slip inside this lovely studio that sleeps 4. With a communal pool, onsite parking, free WiFi, and a boardwalk to the beach, this could be your Port Aransas slice of heaven. One reviewer had this to say:
"Overall Excellent! The Direct WALKING Access to the BEACH was dreamy! The actual Condo, I really loved the shower pressure and 2 double beds. Bring Your Bicycle on the trip or rent one! The Condo's location is close to the Port Aransas Main Town Center. The Port Aransas Beach WATER was blue-ish and warm and BYOB picnic-friendly!"
At a shocking rate of $134 per night for a family of four, you can't go wrong with this treasure.
Seas the Day
For a little more space (but not for a lot more dough) step up to this first-floor condo just a short walk from the sand. You'll have two bedrooms and two baths, giving you room enough for six if you need it. A reviewer from last fall had this to say:
"Quick walk with a beach cart to a wide beach with no worries about drive or traffic. Dig your own fire pit in the sand by day and build a fire to gather at night. Adorable town just a 2 minute drive away. So much to explore. We spent Thanksgiving being thankful to be there. In a word, “Relax”."
The going rate for Easter weekend is $299 per night for four people.
Peace of Heaven
And if you need a big ol' house to hold your crew, we've got one of those for you too. This stunning four-bedroom, four-bath, 2,700 square-foot house has everything you've ever dreamed of for your beach gathering. It's a short walk to the sand, plus there are a washer and dryer for your use, because you know that sand gets in everything. Here's what one recent reviewer had to say:
"Great place! Conveniently located to all attractions, quick walk to the beach. Quick response time and easy check-in and check-out process, will stay again."
And the rate's not bad when you consider that the house sleeps up to twelve for only $698 per night. A price like that makes a Port Aransas family get-together truly affordable.
