Cross Lanes, West Virginia is technically not a city. As a suburb of Charleston, Cross Lanes is a census-designated place (CDP) or perhaps an edge city, a once suburban location that has become a commercial center far removed from downtown Charleston.

No matter how Cross Lanes is classified, there’s no denying its community and its offerings, particularly in terms of restaurants. The top five most popular restaurants in Cross Lanes, according to TripAdvisor users, includes a few chain or franchise restaurants but also a few locally owned gems to please any hungry eater.

Rice Bowl

Topping the list of restaurants in Cross Lanes is the Asian restaurant Rice Bowl. Known for its dark red booths, friendly staff, and generous portion sizes, Rice Bowl offers the dishes patrons have come to expect in American Chinese restaurants: orange chicken, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, lo mein, and more. They also are not afraid to branch out with dishes like pad Thai, Singapore noodles, sushi and other maki rolls, hush puppies, and jalapeño poppers. Even though it is a chain restaurant found in 45 U.S. states, Cracker Barrel provides an experience. The all-day breakfast menu offers fluffy buttermilk pancakes, sharp sourdough French toast, and substantial platters with eggs, sugar-cured ham, grits, and more. Coming third on the list of most popular restaurants in Cross Lanes is another franchise restaurant chain, the casual, American food eatery TGI Fridays. Located in more than sixty countries, this restaurant is mostly known for its slushes, strawberry lemonade, and an extensive array of alcoholic beverage options. For food, TGI Fridays focuses on wings, ribs, steaks, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and pasta dishes. The “Fridays To Go” program offers much of the menu for delivery or pick-up. In Cross Lanes, TGI Fridays is located on Goff Crossing.

Huskey’s Dairy Bar

Anyone looking for a place that focuses on desserts should head to Huskey’s Dairy Bar. The main draw to this little restaurant is the ice cream: soft serve or ‘hand-dipped’ more solid ice cream in cups or cones with optional toppings. They also offer sundaes, milkshakes, banana splits, floats, ice cream cakes, and their famous lemon freeze. For patrons looking for a little food with their desserts, the menu boasts French fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, BBQ, pizzas, and more. Don’t forget the chili and slaw to have your hot dogs the West Virginia way. Huskey’s Dairy Bar is closed through the winter and is located on Washington Street West.
