Women's clothing; Islamic perspectiveMd Jaber Ahmad BD

Allah has created women beautiful and charming. Her natural beauty is enhanced by her dress and grooming. However, the purpose of clothing is not to enhance beauty. Rather, the main purpose of clothing is to cover the body and protect the dignity. So Islam did not leave women completely independent in terms of dress; Everyone will wear whatever they want. Because clothing has a profound effect on women's lives. Its influence extends to all areas, including their religion, moral character, way of life, environment and their behavior. This fact is now acknowledged by psychologists and other scientists.

The reality of clothing

Women's whole body from head to toe is seventeen. In Arabic it is called 'Aurat'. It must be covered by the law, social and logical considerations. The first duty after faith; Which must be acted upon, then satar dhaka. To be attached to the beginning of the creation of this duty. It was obligatory in the law of all the prophets. Rather, before the existence of the law, when the Prophet Adam ate the fruit of the forbidden tree in Paradise. And the wind. They did not consider it lawful to keep the satar open even when the clothes of its body were taken off and the satar was revealed. So they cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. After the arrival of the Prophet Adam. From the time of the last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Yes, there can be differences in the determination and circumference of the covering organ. However, the issue of the original seventeen Dhaka was in the Shariah of all the Prophets. And this command is applicable to all men and women. Satar should be covered in all cases. Whether an eyewitness is present or not.

What will be the dress of women?
The Shari'ah did not prescribe any special shape or design for women's clothing. Rather it laid down some principles and set boundaries for their dress. So all the clothes that will be included in the principles and boundaries will be Islamic dress. And anything that violates that boundary will be considered as illegal clothing.

Brief principles

1. Women's clothing should not be so short, thin and tight that it reveals their physical constitution. Rather their clothing should be such that it is fully veiled.
2. Women will not adopt the likeness of infidels, transgressors and men in the matter of clothing.
3. Avoid clothes that show pride, arrogance, conceit and waste.
4. Wealthy women will not wear such low quality clothes that they look poor.
5. Women will not wear men's clothes.
. Clothing should be clean and tidy. It is better for women to wear colorful clothes for beauty.
Analysis of the basic principles of clothing:
In the Qur'an, Irshad says,

O children of Adam! We have sent down to you clothed garments.

Meaning: O children of Adam! We have sent down to you garments that cover your private parts and your private parts, and that which adorns you. And the garment of piety is best for you. (Surat al-A'raf: 26)
In this verse three sentences have been mentioned in Karima. And in those three sentences lies all the principles of dress. We will describe those principles in the following sequence and with some analysis.
The first principle

The first principle about dress is that women's clothing should not be so short, thin and tight that it reveals the body structure and all the parts that must be covered. Rather, it is important that the clothing is such that it completely covers the satar.

The first purpose of the dress is stated in the above verse, the dress should be such that it covers the veil of women and the place of shame. By this it is clear that the basic purpose of clothing is 'satar dhaka'. And it is from head to toe in the case of women; It is important for them to keep it covered at all times. It is not permissible to open it without the need of Shariah. For this, women must be covered from head to toe with a cloth that will be so thick that the body will not shine from the inside. And it should be so loose that the body shape will not be exposed and it should be enough so that no part of the body is exposed. These three things are especially important for women's clothing. And the dress that does not fulfill these three basic aspects of Satar Dhaka is not a dress at all. In the eyes of the law, even if it is worn, it will be considered as naked.

The condition of women before the Resurrection

On the other hand, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: And so ". رواه مسلم

Hazrat Abu Huraira. Narrated by: He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: There are two groups of the inmates of Hell whom I have not seen. One. A community that has a whip like a cow's tail by which they can beat people. Two. There will be a group of women who will be naked even if they wear clothes. Men will be attracted (to themselves) and (themselves will be attracted to men). Their heads will be like the hump of a camel. All these women will not enter Paradise and will not get the scent of Paradise. But the scent of paradise can be found from so far away. -Mishkat 2/306

In this hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has given such a picture of the condition of women before the Day of Resurrection that it would have been difficult for him to understand the purpose of the hadeeth if no one had seen the present condition. As if he has seen the women of the present age with his own eyes. It was difficult to imagine such a situation in the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). At that time there was no such dress, nor was there any custom of such fashionable hair.
In this hadith it is said that women will remain naked even after wearing clothes. The hadith scholars have given three explanations about this part of the hadith.

1. Wear clothing that does not cover the entire body
2. Wear clothes so narrow that the folds of the body will be visible.
3. Wear so thin clothes that the glow of the body will be visible.
In the present age, it is common for women to wear these three types of clothes.

Short, thin and tight dress
Three types of clothing cannot fulfill its basic purpose:

1) Clothing that is so small that it does not cover the whole body. Rather, some parts of the seventeen remain open. The basic purpose is not achieved by such clothing. Rather the satar remains open. So it is not permissible to wear it.
2) Clothing that covers the satar, but is so thin that, despite wearing it, the radiance of the body is visible from the inside.
3) Clothing that is so tight-fitting that, despite wearing it, body shape and body folds etc. are visible. This is also the name of Satar or Dhaka.
The bottom line is that for women, it is important to cover the entire body from head to toe with a cloth that will be thick enough to not reveal the inside of the body. It will be so loose that the body structure and folds etc. will not be revealed. And there should be a quantity of cloth by which the whole body is covered, no part is left uncovered.

The second principle

"There will be no resemblance between the disbelievers and the transgressors in the matter of clothing." It is unlawful and haraam to imitate a non-Muslim community and to wear special clothes for the purpose of imitating them. There are serious threats in this regard in Hadith Sharif. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

On the authority of Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

"Anyone who adopts the likeness of a community is one of them." -Abu Dawood, Clothing Chapter.

Prohibition on imitation

On the basis of the principles mentioned, it can be said that clothing is a special feature of a non-Muslim community; By which they are known; If such clothes are worn for the purpose of imitating them, then it will be najaiz and haram. In the language of Hadith, such a person is not a Muslim, but a member of that community. Because he loves them, loves them and wants to be like them. So he is counted as one of them.

Prohibition on taking the shape of a man

Allah has given different rules to both men and women. So is the demand of nature and intellect. Everything looks good when it is in shape. When her creative state deteriorates, she looks worse than beautiful.

These things are becoming very popular in the society nowadays: boys are made to wear girls clothes and girls are made to wear boys clothes. If children are dressed in the opposite sex, then the parents will be guilty. Today's young children are living in this place. This method has also started to be Europe and America. To them it is an object of fashion and pride. But in Islam it is the cause of the curse.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed men who wear women's clothes and cursed women who wear men's clothes. " -Meshkat 2/373

The third principle

"Stay away from clothes that show arrogance, waste and show off."
One of the principles of dress is that it should not be for pride and show off. It is haraam to wear clothes that cause arrogance and old age in the heart. There is a strong threat in this regard in Hadith Sharif. The Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Whoever wears clothes to show off on earth, Allaah will make him wear those clothes on the Day of Resurrection. And he will be cast into hell. -Ibn Majah; Dress Up Episode.

The fourth principle

'Wealthy women should not wear clothes that make them feel destitute and poor'
Allah has made clothes our means of adornment and beauty. Therefore, the dress should be such that people enjoy seeing it, not look awkward and bad, which makes others hate it. Rather, it should be such that the purpose of the decoration is seen.

A woman who is rich or her husband or parents are rich, their income is good. It is makrooh for him to wear worn-out and inferior clothes. It has been narrated in Hadith:

Hazrat Abul Ahwas narrated from his father, he said, I came to the court of the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). I was wearing a very worn kind of dress. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked me, "Do you have any wealth?" I said yes. He asked, "What kind of wealth do you have?" I replied, O Messenger of Allah! Allah has given me all kinds of wealth. Camels, cows, goats, horses and slaves are all there. The Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: When Allaah has given you wealth, then the signs of His grace should be manifested in your body. -Ahmad, Nasai; Mishkat 2/375

The purpose of revealing the signs of Allah's blessings is to show that Allah has given everything, yet there is a kind of ungratefulness of Allah's blessings on those who wear worn-out clothes like the fakir-miskin. So it is inappropriate to do so.

Wearing expensive clothes for the purpose of comfort

It is permissible to wear high quality and expensive clothes for one's comfort, decoration and beauty. It has also been proven that the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to wear expensive clothes. It has been narrated that once the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wore a robe which was worth two thousand dinars. So there is no problem in wearing expensive clothes for the comfort or beauty of the body.

It is not permissible to wear clothes for the purpose of showing off

Hazrat Ibn Omar. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) narrated that he said, “Whoever wears clothes to show off to the world, Allaah will clothe him with disgrace on the Day of Resurrection.” -Meshkat 2/375

Therefore, if the purpose of clothing is not for the purpose of comfort and beauty and adornment of the body, but for the purpose of showing old age and showing off; People will say, the man is very rich, very well dressed. And the purpose is to show superiority and influence over others, but it will be a showy dress. It is forbidden. The disease is more common in women. It is very important for them to survive.

The fifth principle

"Don't try to wear clothes that are better than your finances."

It is important to avoid waste and arrogance

The dress should be in accordance with one's financial means. It is not right to be accustomed to wearing expensive clothes for the purpose of showing off one's arrogance and publicity. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Eat whatever you want, wear whatever you want, but one of the two things will survive. Waste, two. Pride. ” -Sahih Bukhari; Clothing episode

The purpose of Hadith Sharif is to wear whatever kind of clothes you want. It is permissible for you. But it should not be wasted. And waste will only happen when a woman wears expensive clothes for the purpose of showing off before her position. Which causes arrogance to wear. So it is important to survive.

Wearing expensive clothing for entertainment purposes

It is also permissible to wear expensive clothes to please one's mind or one's husband in order to avoid extravagance and publicity. That is to say, it is permissible to wear clothes which make the body feel comfortable, at the same time achieve the purpose of some decoration and also for the purpose of entertaining the husband. It will not include waste.

The sixth principle

"Women will not wear men's clothes and men will not wear women's clothes."

On the authority of Abu Huraira, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said:

Hazrat Abu Huraira. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed men who wore women's clothing and cursed women who wore men's clothing. -Abu Dawood; Clothing episode

Therefore women should dress as women. Men should dress themselves. It is not permissible for women to adopt the behavior of men and for men to adopt the shape of women in clothing and costumes. That's damnable. It is vital to survive.

Seventh principle

"Clothing should be clean and tidy and it is better for women to wear colorful clothes for beauty"

Women should keep their clothes clean and tidy. In front of the husband will not be untidy and dirty clothes. Instead, she should wear clean clothes in front of her husband. Because it is the husband's right. If the wife does not dress up despite being told by the husband, then the husband can rule her gently.

What should women's clothing look like?

The whole body of women is seventeen. It is socially, logically and legally obligatory to cover it. Therefore, women should use a veil over the head which covers the hair and covers the neck and neck. If there is a danger of a mahram coming to Ghair, he should also cover his face with a thick veil. Wear a shirt or frock that is invisible to the body. Wear full sleeves. The neck and collar should be made in such a way that not even a small part of the chest and back is open towards the front and back. Selwars and saris should be worn in such a way that no part of the legs, ankles, etc. can be seen.

The age of fashion

The mood of the people of the present age has become strange. There is no measure of one's own likes or dislikes. In the name of fashion, the media imitates the character that starts giving alms. When she's out of fashion, she doesn't like it anymore. The fashion that starts at that time is liked and appreciated; It is very beautiful and wonderful. When that fashion is over, it doesn't feel good anymore. But this is not an Islamic principle. It is not right to determine likes and dislikes, nice and awkward based on fashion. The Islamic way is that it is permissible to wear any garment within the limits of the Shari'ah in order to please one's mind. But it would not be permissible to follow any fashion for the purpose of showing off to others.

Women and fashion

Women are at the forefront of fashion. Especially in this age, it is necessary to correct the epidemic of fashion worship that they have been affected by. They think clothing is not for themselves, but for others. Therefore, it is important for them to please themselves or their husbands after dressing. The main purpose of the viewers is to comment on the dress as favorable to the current fashion, appreciate it, people will consider it rich and fashion conscious. All these mentality are very common among women. As a result, women stay in their homes and in front of their husbands, wearing dirty and ordinary clothes. But when the need arises to get out of the house or to attend a party or event, it is important that the dress should be fashionable. So that when he wears it, people think he is rich and fashion conscious.

Wear different outfits for each occasion

The result of the above discussion is that many women do not like to wear one dress on one occasion and on another. As if wearing that dress has become haram. Because if she takes part in another event after that dress, other women may think that she has only one pair of clothes. Everywhere that one pair goes after. As a result, he will be ashamed. Basically behind all these things there is a tendency to show people. But the law does not support it. But if a woman wears a pair of clothes today and a pair of clothes tomorrow to please herself or her husband without the tendency to show off. And Allah also gives him financial strength, but there is no problem in that. That is permissible.

It is not advisable to be alone in the house alone

Although it is not a sin for a woman to have an empty head in her house, it is better for her to cover her head with a veil etc. inside the house. Because it has been narrated in the hadith: The angels hate the woman in the house where she is empty-headed.
