University of Florida Performing Arts and the Phillips Center announced Friday that the University of Florida Wind Symphony will be offering a concert, free to the public, at the Phillips Center, in Gainesville. The concert will include original works written by world-renowned contemporary composers, feature multi-time Grammy award-winning artist, Dr. José Valentino Ruiz, as well as international opera virtuoso, Scott Piper, and more.
Dr. José Valentino Ruiz is known as the trailblazing arts entrepreneur, internationally-acclaimed cross-genre performing/recording artist (i.e. as a flutist, saxophonist, bass guitarist, composer, keyboardist, and global percussionist), and record producer of his generation, multi-Latin GRAMMY® and EMMY® Award winning artist-composer-producer-engineer.
Dr. Ruiz' creative ingenuity, collaborative spirit, keen business accumen, and missiological prowess have led to him to produce 130+ albums (20+ as an artist), perform 1400+ concerts, keynote 50+ university residencies, lead 40+ non-profit mission trips with churches, generate millions of dollars in revenue for various creative arts companies, deliver 100+ master classes, compose for 30+ film documentaries/media production, publish numerous research articles, and co-find/direct ground-breaking music entrepreneurship virtual summits that are ventured with leading arts business organizations in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
The University of Florida Wind Symphony is the premiere performing ensemble of the University of Florida Band Program, which includes four concert bands, three athletic bands (including the famed Pride of Sunshine Fightin' Gator Marching Band), and several jazz bands. Consisting of 50 to 60 graduate and undergraduate music majors. Dr. David Waybright is currently Director of Bands and Head of Conducting at the University of Florida. He conducts the Wind Symphony and directs all aspects of the band program and the graduate and undergraduate conducting curricula.
The free concert will take place on Tuesday April 25th at 7:20 PM at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville.
