Former President Donald Trump has a long history of insulting women, especially those he perceives to be women of power and intelligence, or whom he just doesn’t like or feels threatened by and true to form, Trump is now feuding with TV personality Jessica Tarlov, of Fox’s news show The Five. On Truth Social Trump writes, “I really like The Five on Fox News, especially the hosts, with the exception of wacky Jessica Tarlov, who is absolutely terrible. Her facts are knowingly wrong, her jittery presentation is horrendous and, forgive me, her VOICE is grating and unendurable.”
Here are some other things Trump has said about women.
Breast-feeding Women: During a 2015 deposition into his failed Florida real estate project, opposing attorney Elizabeth Beck asked for a medical break to pump breast milk for her 3-month-old. Trump erupted, “You’re disgusting,” then walked out of the room.
Wives and Mothers: In a 2005 radio interview, Trump said he didn’t change diapers because it’s the wife’s job. He told Howard Stern, “I won't do anything to take care of them.”
All Muslim women: Speaking about the Muslim mother of a fallen Iraq war Vet, “she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say.”
Victims of sexual harassment: According to this interview, Trump believes that if a woman is harassed, she — not the harasser — should leave the workplace.
Women seeking abortions: Trump believes that women who seek abortions should receive "some form of punishment" if abortions become banned.
He Bragged of Sexually Assaulting Women: "I’ve gotta use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her," Trump said in a 2005 recording, “You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait… And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."
Sexually Objectifying Children: In an Entertainment Tonight video from 1992, Trump is heard objectifying a 10-year-old girl. After talking to a girl who is going up an escalator, Trump says, "I am going to be dating her in 10 years. Can you believe it?"
Sexually Objectifying his Daughter, Ivanka: Trump was quoted as saying in a USA Today interview, “I don't think Ivanka would do that, although she does have a very nice figure. I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."
Trump has consistently insulted, belittled, sexualized and stereotyped women. He has also taken the time to personally insult individual notable women like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rosie O’Donnell, Cher, Bette Midler, and others.
The psychology at play in misogyny, racism, bigotry and intolerance is a belief in the power-over and power-under paradigm. Instead of believing there is a responsibility to protect and offer opportunity to others, a misogynist sees himself as the Macho Man.
According to Vox editor Libby Nelson, Trump “has been objectifying and dehumanizing women for decades. Trump’s misogyny has been in plain sight for a long time. In public and private, he’s made clear that women matter to him not as people but as sex objects. Even with women whom he supposedly likes and admires, he’s made clear that he values their looks above all else.”
