Governor Greg Abbott recently announced more funding for the Texas border wall with Mexico...

Governor Greg Abbott recently announced more than $5.1 billion to secure the border, fund the Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and expand the US-Mexico border wall.

The Governor also made pledges to deter migrants from crossing the US-Mexico border illegally. “The Texas National Guard is loading Blackhawk helicopters and C-130s and deploying specially trained soldiers for the Texas Tactical Border Force," he said. "They will be deployed to hotspots all along the border to help intercept and repel large groups of migrants trying to enter Texas illegally."

Governor Greg Abbott Wants To Invest In Border Security.

Governor Greg Abbott has already spent billions of dollars on Operation Lone Star - a multi-agency effort to deter migrants from crossing the border illegally. "I thank all the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Texas National Guard soldiers for working around the clock to hold the line and defend our border," said Gov. Abbott during a visit to Brownsville. "Texas will never stop doing whatever it takes to respond to President Biden’s border crisis."

“I have traveled along the border and seen firsthand the impact President Biden’s border crisis is having on Texas communities,” said Border Czar Banks. “Governor Abbott is doing the job that President Biden and the federal government is refusing to do, and Texas will continue to work relentlessly to defend our border."

The US-Mexico Border Wall Has Been The Subject of Controversy For Several Years.

It's no secret that the US-Mexico border wall has been shrouded in controversy in recent years. After Donald Trump made it an integral part of his 2016 election campaign, the border wall has become a common topic of debate amongst families around the United States.

It's worth mentioning, however, that some people are critical of Greg Abbott's plans to curb illegal immigration. “Operation Lone Star and Texas’ new immigration proposals are extreme among states in the US and among countries in the world,” said Bob Libal, consultant to Human Rights Watch - a non-government organization (NGO).

Governor Abbott has also been accused of "playing politics with people's lives" by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “Despite Abbott’s inhumane actions, New York City will continue to do all it can to handle this influx, but this crisis is more than one city can handle. With a vacuum of leadership from border states, we need the federal government to step in and provide us with support and to prevent this cruelty from continuing.”
