Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin recently announced the deployment of 100 National Guard troops to the southern border. "The ongoing border crisis facing our nation has turned every state into a border state," he said. “As leadership solutions at the federal level fall short, states are answering the call to secure our southern border."

Glen Youngkin continued to say Virginia is responding to a plea for help from Texas Governor Greg Abbott. "Virginia will do its part to assist the State of Texas’ efforts with the coordinated deployment of Virginia National Guard soldiers to assist in key aspects of their mission.”

Glen Youngkin Might Be Trying To Appeal To Republican Voters

Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin is reportedly reconsidering his 2024 presidential election bid, according to reports by Axios. "There are serious discussions happening on re-engaging in the presidential race," said a Virginia GOP strategist. "He's reconsidering," said a source close to Governor Youngkin during a conversation with Axios. "He'd be in his own lane: He's not never-Trump, and he's not Trump-light."

If Glen Youngkin decides to enter the 2024 presidential election race, his decision to send troops to the southern border might be an attempt to appeal to Republican voters around the country.

According to a Fox News poll, 74% of voters support increasing the number of border agents on the southern border. 73% of people want more immigration judges to process asylum claims faster. Furthermore, more than two-thirds of people want to make it easier to immigrate to the United States, encouraging migrants to enter the country via legal pathways.

Several States Are Sending Resources To The Southern Border

Virginia is just one of many states helping Texas on the southern border. Tennesse, Idaho, Nebraska, Mississippi, and Florida have also deployed resources to the lone star state in recent weeks. After all, Governor Greg Abbott recently wrote a letter to every Governor in the nation asking for help.

"This crisis does not stop in our state,” wrote Gov. Abbott. "In the federal government’s absence, we, as Governors, must band together to combat President Biden’s ongoing border crisis and ensure the safety and security that all Americans deserve."

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen also made a statement about the southern border crisis. "Our nation has a serious and unchecked threat on its hands following President Biden's decision to end Title 42," he said. "Nebraska is committed to using every tool in its tool box to help stop the influx of illegal immigration at our southern border."

“The federal government owes Americans a plan to secure our country," said Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. "In the meantime, states continue to answer this important call to service. I am authorizing the Tennessee National Guard to help secure the Southern border, and I commend these troops for providing critical support.”
