It's Possible To Spend Less Money On Gas

Matt Lillywhite

It's no secret that many people around the country want to save money on gas. So, here are several tips you can implement to make your tank of gas last much longer:

Don't Drive Unless You Absolutely Need To.

If you don't need to drive somewhere, consider walking or taking public transit to reach your destination. For example, if you're going downtown and live near a bus stop or train station, it might be a good idea to take public transit. In addition to saving money on gas, you'll probably save on parking, as well.

Perform Regular Maintenance On Your Car

According to the RAC, "Regular maintenance and servicing improves the efficiency of your vehicle, and therefore can improve your fuel consumption." Check that your tires are filled to the proper pressure as specified in your owner's handbook, as both underinflated and overinflated tires can reduce fuel efficiency.

Remove Any Unnecessary Objects From The Roof

Before you begin your car journey, it's worth removing any unnecessary objects from the roof of your car, as they can significantly decrease fuel efficiency. Quoting an article published by Scientific American:

"Roof racks are handy additions to vehicles, giving additional space for bikes and luggage. But, they are also a real drag on fuel consumption and could increase your gasoline bill by as much as 25%."
