The Richest Woman In New York City

Matt Lillywhite

Julia Koch is the richest woman in New York City. She's currently considered one of the world's richest women and has a net worth of over $60 billion, per Forbes.

She first traveled to New York City in 1984 after graduating from the University of Central Arkansas. For a while, she worked as an assistant to fashion designer Adolfo and conducted fittings for Nancy Reagan.

In 1996, she married David Koch, who served as executive vice president of Koch Industries - one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. The company has a revenue exceeding $115 billion, according to Forbes. However, David retired due to health issues in 2018.

Julia established herself on the New York social scene after marrying David, presiding over functions for the American Ballet Theater and the American Museum of Natural History. She also made her New York societal debut in 1997, when she co-chaired the Met Gala with Anna Wintour and Patrick McCarthy. Sadly, Julia's husband, David, passed away in 2019 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Thus, Julia and her children inherited a large stake in Koch Industries (approximately 42%).

It's also worth mentioning that Julia is the president of the David H. Koch Foundation, which has provided more than $200 million to causes such as science, medical research, and education.
