This review is a long time coming. Patti and I ate at this diner a few times in the past few years, but one night stood out from the rest.
I'm writing about the retro diner at Chuckchansi Casino in Coarsegold, California, aptly names Deuces Diner.
Don't get me wrong, several other restaurants need to be reviewed, and I will over time. We haven't dined at all of them, but we have tried more than our share of two or three when there.
For now, this review is just about Deuces Diner. A retro diner that brings you back to the '50s and '60s through decor, music, and menu items like the one that stood out on this one night, at least for me.
As we walked in, I saw a poster announcing the special for the evening and couldn't believe my eyes. The word Fried/Grilled Bologna Sandwich stood out with a huge picture of a beautiful, tempting sandwich of a piece of a thick grilled slice of bologna between two parts of a hamburger bun with a thick slice of tomato and topped with mustard.
It looked fantastic, and I knew what I wanted immediately.
On the other hand, Patti had a steak taco, which she had had before, and felt confident it would be as good as before.
Back to The Fried/Grilled Bologna (No Picture)
The sandwich tasted as good as it looked in the picture. Of course, the poster pic looked better than the sandwich in real life, but that's always the case; look at a Mcdonald's ad and then order that meal. Nothing looks like the picture.
The sandwich was perfect and exactly what I would want a fried bologna sandwich to taste like. The added tomato was excellent, and it was something I had never added to my fried bologna sandwiches in the past.
The bologna was grilled/fried to perfection with crispy edges, making the sandwich excellent.
The amount of mustard on top was perfect, not having to add any more or scrape the excess off that you usually expect.
The bun was fried/grilled also, which added to the crunch of the bologna, making my dining experience a true joy and reviving memories of a lost childhood favorite sandwich.
Patti has had the steak taco before and loved it, and tonight was no exception.
As usual, the steak, tri/tip, was perfectly cooked. Patti said it was juicy, tender, and flavorful to the taste buds. The taco had enough steak to satisfy the hungriest person ordering it. Add the lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese topping the taco, which was the perfect dinner meal.
I ordered fries for a side with my sandwich, and we shared them. They were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just how they should be.
The meal wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't that expensive for what we ordered. All in all, it's a great place to eat on the cheap when gambling.
Check it out!
