The Arizona Dept. of Transportation (ADOT) reported yesterday that there will be fewer highway closings than normal in the Phoenix metro area this weekend. Stretches of two freeways in the Phoenix area are scheduled to be closed this weekend.
As a result, ADOT posted 3 highway closings starting Friday, Aug. 21, 2023.
- ADOT said that Southbound Interstate 17 closed between Greenway Road and Northern Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 21) for a pavement improvement project.
2. ADOT said that the Eastbound Loop 303 will be closed between Lake Pleasant Parkway and I-17 from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 19) for a new interchange project.
In addition, Westbound Loop 303 will be closed between I-17 and Lake Pleasant Parkway from 7
p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 21).
3. ADOT also said that Northbound 32nd Street and southbound 40th Street will be closed between I-10 and Broadway Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday (Aug. 21). The reason is construction due to the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
Often there are four to six highway closings during the weekend due to ADOT construction projects. The department did not give a reason why there will be fewer closings this weekend. However, given the potential weather this weekend, that could be one reason why.
Moreover, schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors. Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov and by calling 511.
Detours to get around these closings are available to be seen on the ADOT site map.
