North Carolina's DMV Has a New YouTube Video about the REAL ID Deadline of May 7, 2025 - You Need This to Fly on Planes

The North Carolina DMV has posted a new YouTube video about the new May 7, 2025, deadline to get a REAL ID driver's license or ID card - in order to fly on planes starting then.

The video, "Do You Need a REAL ID?" discusses whether any resident in North Carolina may need a REAL ID, a federal designation on the NC driver's license, in order to board planes starting on May 7, 2025. With it, you will have to carry a valid U.S. passport just to fly within the United States.

Here is what a North Carolina REAL ID license looks like:

It shows that there is a gold circle and a white star in the middle in the upper right-hand corner.

Starting May 7, 2025, federal agencies will enforce the REAL ID Act, which requires a REAL ID, U.S. passport, or another federally approved identification to board commercial flights and enter secure federal buildings.

To get the North Carolina REAL ID you have to first set up an appointment with the DMV.

How to Get a REAL ID in North Carolina

The DMV says that you first need to prove your identity and age. You have to show that you have a valid right to be in the U.S. You can do this with a certified birth certificate and/or a U.S. passport.

Next, you have to show a Social Security Number (SSN) card or a pay stub showing this SSN.

Lastly, you have to show 2 proofs of physical residency in North Carolina.

These requirements have to be shown with original documents during the actual in-person appointment with North Carolina's DMV.

NewsBreak previously had an article discussing why the May 3, 2023, deadline was extended to May 7, 2025, by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

That article discusses why the DHS may have moved that deadline, both due to Covid and also due to the Biden Administration policy reasons related to its immigration policy.
