Apparently, the ending of the latest John Wick movie is not the end of the series. That is based on a new report from Deadline magazine.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said the latest move in the franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4, made $137 million worldwide over the weekend, including $73.5 million in the U.S.
In addition, the movie is apparently the second-best global opening for Keanu Reeves. But that won't be the end of the John Wick story.
For example, a new movie, Ballerina, is planned for 2024. This "spinoff" of John Wick will star Ana de Armas as well as Keanu Reeves. According to Wikipedia, the events of the movie are set between the Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 events of the John Wick series. In the film, ballerina assassin Rooney (Armas) hunts those who killed her family.
In addition, a new TV miniseries, The Continental, is coming this fall in September to Peacock. It is a prequel thriller series based on the John Wick series. A prequel is a work that forms part of a backstory to the preceding work. The Continental is the fictional hotel that Joh Wick stays at, usually violence-free - according to hotel rules, while in New York City.
The total franchise value of the John Wick series, according to Deadline is now at $724 million. Each one of the movies has racked up increasingly higher totals.
The Deadline article ends with a quote from the chairman of Lionsgate as saying he thinks there is a possibility of another John Wick movie. No details were given.
