Pizza is a beloved food in the United States and around the world. It's not just a food item but an emotion, a culture, and a way of life for many. Pizza is always a crowd-pleaser whether you are having a casual dinner with friends or a family gathering. And when it comes to the best pizza in America, New Jersey is often mentioned. Some call New Jersey the pizza capital of the world.
The annual Pizza Bowl, hosted by Guy Madsen of the Facebook group Jersey Pizza Joints, is a prestigious event celebrating the art of pizza-making, specifically the best pizza and pizzerias of New Jersey. It brings together the top pizza chefs from four regions of New Jersey to showcase their skills, creativity, and passion for pizza. The event occurred on Saturday, February 4th, at Redd's Restaurant & Bar in Carlstadt, NJ (near the Meadowlands).
The event, judged by the crowd and pizza experts, evaluates each pizza based on its taste, texture, aroma, and overall presentation. Pizza shops and pizza makers compete from North Jersey, Central Jersey, Jersey Shore, and South Jersey. The event is a fundraiser for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit that helps America's heroes and families of fallen first responders.
Coniglio's Old Fashioned of Morristown, NJ, emerged as the victor of the highly coveted Pizza Bowl 3 championship with their exceptional pizza. The winning pizza featured a crispy crust, well-balanced flavorful sauce, and impeccably melted cheese. What sets their pizza apart from others? First of all, Coniglio's makes their dough from unbleached flour imported from Italy and their own yeast starter. Then they add imported mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, garlic confit, crispy fresh basil, Sicilian extra virgin olive oil, Parmigiano Reggiano, and pecorino romano.
The Pizza Bowl 3 champion, Coniglio's Old Fashioned of Morristown, NJ, astounded the judges and audience with their delectable pizza. It is now known as New Jersey's best pizza, at least until the next competition in February 2024! Coniglio's is definitely worth a visit if you want to indulge in a truly unique and delicious pizza.
