The Fare Porter Gourmet Burger Boutique Set to Open in Haddonfield

The Fare Porter brings gourmet burgers, fries, shakes, and non-alcoholic cocktails to downtown Haddonfield beginning Thursday, March 3rd. Located at 109 Kings Highway, the long-awaited burger bar concept is Marcello De Feo's second eatery in South Jersey.

De Feo had envisioned opening a burger concept in Haddonfield a few years ago. Initially, he partnered with Chefs Walter Gouldsbury and David Murray, of nearby Crumb Haddonfield, on Founder & Signer, with pop-ups at the Haddonfield Farmers Market. When the pandemic hit, he decided to pause the project and simply focus on Valente's Cucina, his intimate Italian restaurant nearby in Kings Court.

He was determined to give Haddonfield the upscaled burger experience he thought it needed. Along with his Executive Chef Johnnie Reynolds, they started working on The Fare Porter in late 2021. They took over the storefront previously known as the Bleu Bear Bakery, built a brand-new kitchen, and renovated the space with bar seating for up to 15 inside. In warmer weather, outdoor seating will be available.

The menu consists of five craft burgers served on Japanese milk buns made from Amber Grain Baking (formerly of Collingswood), hand-cut fries, and a few over-the-top milkshake creations. They will also be serving non-alcoholic cocktails and wines by Auburn Road Winery based in Pilesgrove, NJ.

De Feo is also working on bringing back his Valente's Italian Specialties retail grocery store in Kings Court. Details are sparse, but work is being done on the space now, and an official announcement will be made soon.

The growth of Haddonfield's food scene in recent years has been exciting to watch, and places like The Fare Porter will solidify the town's spot on the culinary map in New Jersey, spotlighting South Jersey in particular as a destination for good eats.
