REX at the Royal on South Street Launches Weekend Brunch

REX at The Royal, Philadelphia’s sexiest new destination for Lowcountry fare housed in the historic and newly rejuvenated Royal Theater on South Street, and recently celebrated in Philadelphia Magazine’s list of 50 Best Restaurants, is pleased to announce the launch of its weekend brunch program, now available on Sundays from 11 am – 2:30 pm.

The restaurant’s robust brunch menu, crafted by long-time Charleston resident Executive Chef Aaron Paik, features traditional Lowcountry Southeast Atlantic cuisine including signature dishes such as Chicken & Waffles ($23), Crab Cake Benedict ($35), and Shrimp and Grits ($29). Additional entree highlights span Southern staples such as the Fried Chicken Biscuit ($15) or Country Ham and Gravy ($21), with the greater menu bolstered by sides including Lancaster County Bacon ($8), Pork Roll ($7), and Cheesy Marsh Hen Grits ($7).

Brunch goers can enjoy the expertly curated beverage menu during brunch service, with popular drinks spanning the Yellow Snow ($15), made with blanco vermouth, yellow chartreuse, creme de banana, pickled sweet corn and rosemary, the Winter Mimosa ($10), crafted with spiced honey syrup, orange, sparkling wine, as well as an extensive selection of local beers and wines from around the globe.

Following the formal opening of the restaurant’s main floor and curated bottle shop, the artisan café offering gourmet coffee and light bites will be open for sales and service later this spring.

REX at The Royal, the impressive 7,000 square feet glow-up from its original concept, is distinguished by a sprawling dining room, massive turquoise top bar, and upper mezzanine, serving as a hub for the tight-knit community cultivated just doors away at the original REX 1516 location. The newest concept from Sojourn Philly, following the opening of Sor Ynez in March of 2021, looks forward to participating in the cultural and culinary rejuvenation of South Street following challenges presented by the past year and a half. It is located at 1524 South Street.

Hours of operation are as follows: Sunday through Thursday from 5 - 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 5 - 11 pm, with brunch available on Sunday from 11 am – 2:30 pm, followed by dinner running from 5 – 10 pm. Reservations are available by phone, or online through Open Table.
