After almost a year of renovations, the former Mad Rex location transformed from a post-apocalyptic restaurant and virtual reality lounge into a nautical-themed seafood-centric restaurant. They nearly gutted the space to give it a fresh new look and feel.

The menu was developed by Executive Chef Valentin Bey (ex-Brauhaus Schmitz), a native of Germany who moved to the United States ten years ago. Bey will run the day-to-day kitchen operations of the restaurant along with General Manager Jeff Schroth.

The restaurant promises to offer "traditional seafood with a fresh new twist" in a 180 seat venue featuring a two-sided bar, outdoor dining, and a 25 foot HD TV which will surely attract sports fans. A separate full bar menu will be offered daily from 12:00 PM to closing.

The extensive dinner menu includes many seafood-based appetizers, raw bar selections, soups, salads & sandwiches, seafood & fish entrees, steaks & chops, and housemade desserts. It will also offer the Cajun seafood boil that Crab Du Jour offers at 100 locations across the East Coast.

"The Crab Du Jour team is thrilled to bring the fish back to Fishtown with this contemporary casual Surf & Turf restaurant in Philadelphia," GM Schroth said. "We think Fishtown locals and visitors alike will enjoy our heavily seafood-centric menu along with amazing libations in our full-service bar."

The bar program, helmed by veteran mixologist Philip Search, will offer an expansive cocktail list of both little know classics and house originals, and will also feature a carefully curated bottle list of over 100 wines, 16 by the glass, and an extra-large draft beer selection.

A soft opening starts on Wednesday, November 23rd. A 10% discount will be offered on all orders until the grand opening on Tuesday, December 7th.

The restaurant will be open seven days per week. Operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Friday and Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
