Five People Found Dead in Commerce City Home

Maria Wallisch

On January 20th, around 4 pm, officers found 5 people dead inside a Commerce City Home, on East 104th Avenue in the 1400 block.

Emergency personnel responded to a call around 3:45 pm that reported several people were unconscious inside an apartment at the North Range Crossings Apartments. It is not clear who made the 911 call.

This is still a developing story, so these are the details confirmed by police at this time. A total of 6 adults and one infant were in the apartment. 5 of the 6 adults were found dead. The 6th individual was brought to the hospital, and there are no current updates on this person's status.

The baby, thought to be around 4 months old, was brought to the hospital to be examined, and is alive and doing okay.

Authorities confirmed there was a Hazmat crew onsite, and that a "substance" was found, but they can't say what it is.

According to an update on Twitter from Kelly Reinke, police tested for hazardous gas, which came back negative. The baby is also expected to be fine.

According to Kelly Reinke's update, it is believed that they were not in the apartment long before someone called the police on the group of people.

While the cause of death or any information about the substance is unknown at this time, there is speculation online from Reddit users on the thread "r/Denver" about what the unknown substance might be, with users questioning if the substance was illicit.

Some users are taking guesses about fentanyl, or speculating about carbon monoxide poisoning. However, the cause of death for the 5 adults remains unknown, so further information will be needed.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of death for these individuals, but so far it does not appear to involve foul play or a violent crime.

This is a developing story.
