There has been a serious problem with people in Richmond, Virginia getting their mail on time if at all. Complaints are continuing to stack up. Residents don't know when their mail delivery service will return to normal.

A Town Hall Meeting was scheduled earlier this week, but it was canceled because no one from the United States Postal Service (USPS) committed to attend.

Commonwealth Attorney Colette McEachin says residents with complaints should contact the appropriate postal service division.

The big blue outdoor mail collection boxes

There is another serious mail problem in Richmond. McEachin is urging city residents not to use the big blue outdoor mail collection boxes.

Collection boxes are those blue freestanding receptacles outside the postal building where outgoing mail is deposited and mail carriers collect it later.

McEachin says the collection boxes are being vandalized and broken into.

"They are being vandalized and your mail is not safe if you deposit it. Especially given the holiday season and the importance of people's gifts and mail being delivered properly, I'd just advise everyone not to use the big blue boxes."
