The Hallmark Christmas movie Sugar Plum Twist is set in Richmond, Virginia, but it was filmed many miles away in small towns in Connecticut.
About Sugar Plum Twist
The movie follows a former professional ballerina Natalia (Jamie Gray Hyder) after an injury ended her career as a dancer. She returns from New York City to her hometown in Richmond, Virginia to choreograph the local Nutcracker.
After a ballet student, Vivíana Serrano (Laura Rosguer) fails to get the coveted role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the production of The Nutcracker, she and Natalia join forces to create a surprise reprise of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy with a Latin twist.
In the end, both Natalia and Viviana accomplished what they set out to do. Viewers of the movie commented that Sugar Plum Twist is not a twist on The Nutcracker. The movie is so much more. There is a combination of ballet and salsa incorporated throughout the movie and is central to the storyline.
