Bonchon, the popular restaurant known for its crispy Korean fried chicken, is opening its first location in Aurora this month at 4302 E. New York St. The restaurant which is expected to open for business on March 31 will bring the chain’s world-famous signature menu, which includes hand-battered, double-fried, crispy Korean fried chicken that tastes delicious, and flavorful to more residents.
The Aurora location's owner said he hopes to bring the community together with Bonchon's "delicious flavors and crunch."
"Bringing the Aurora community together with the delicious flavors and crunch that Bonchon has to offer is what I am looking forward to the most by opening this new location," Ting Ting Zhang, the owner, and operator of the Aurora location said in a statement. "The love for Bonchon is growing throughout Illinois and I hope to see more people discover what makes our fried chicken so special."
The brand’s mission from the onset was to share Korean comfort food with diners across the world, and according to the company, it's been "more than a success."
What sets Bonchon apart is the process every piece undergoes before it is served. The chickens are hand-battered in a thin layer of flour and other secret ingredients that contribute to giving each piece the Bonchon signature taste. Thereafter each piece is fried twice first to soak in all the succulent juices and secondly to achieve that unique, crunchy taste that leaves people craving for more. Finally, each piece is hand brushed with the signature Bonchon sauce. This last stage guarantees a perfectly flavorful eating experience for customers.
Bonchon, which translates from Korean to English as “my hometown,” is known for its signature Korean fried chicken that is hand-battered, and double-fried to achieve its signature, crave-worthy crunch. Founded in Busan, South Korea in 2002, Bonchon’s founder Jinduk Seo dreamed of sharing his favorite flavors with the world.
Well, the founder’s dream is coming true as the brand has become a global sensation with more than 390 locations across the globe and 120 locations in the U.S. The Aurora opening will mark Bonchon's eighth location in Illinois. Currently, the nearest Bonchon to Aurora is in Bolingbrook.
Apart from the cult-favorite fried chicken wings, drumsticks, and strips, Bonchon also offers other pan-Asian favorites like Kimchi, Korean tacos, and potstickers.
Aurora's Bonchon will be open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. According to officials, the restaurant will not only have plenty of space for dining in, but everything on the menu will also be available for takeout.
