Mykonos Travel Guide

Madamelena

This is a quick guide to some of my favourite places and recommendations when visiting the beautiful Greek island of Mykonos.
After I visited Santorini in May, I fell in love with Greece so much that I decided to come back to explore another Greek Island!
Mykonos is such a dreamy place with plenty of iconic blue alleys that you can take a relaxing stroll through.
What I really like about Mykonos is that you can explore the whole island on foot, and really just take your time to soak in the beauty of it all.

FAMOUS BLUE ALLEYS

Probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear “Mykonos” are the iconic blue alleyways.
I recommend going there before the shops open in the morning and you will see everything in a completely different light, it looks so peaceful and empty. You can wander around the narrow streets for hours on end exploring the town! Just don’t lose track of time…

WHERE TO EAT

Mamalouka: A great place to get a shot in front of the restaurant with loads of beautiful Bougainvillea flowers and an even greater place to enjoy some local, fresh seafood!

Lalala Mykonos: A really cute, small cafe – perfect for breakfast or brunch. We enjoyed pancakes and greek yoghurt with granola and fresh berries, but the savoury options were also amazing.

HealthyLicious: We came to this restaurant almost every morning for breakfast. They have some really healthy and super tasty food on their menu (with a lot of veggie or vegan options). My favourite was Greek yoghurt with granola, honey and fresh berries (soo delish!)

Sea Satin by Gryparis: Not only are the views beyond amazing, but the food was absolutely delicious! I recommend that you book a table for dinner here, as they have beautiful live music there, and, after everyone has finished their food, (and when they reach a certain level of alcohol) they start dancing. Not like you would think, on the floor…No! Greek people dance ON the tables! It was a really fun experience.

Kastros: When visiting this restaurant you definitely need to sit outside. Could a view be anymore amazing than this?

LITTLE VENICE

Yes, there is a Little Venice in Mykonos! If you fancy sea food, an iced coffee, or just relaxing and enjoying an amazing view, then you should definitely pay Little Venice a visit whilst you’re in Mykonos.

PARAPORTIANI CHURCH

The Church of Panagia Paraportiani is located in the neighbourhood of Kastro, right by the sea. Started in the 14th Century and completed in the 17th Century, the Church of Panagia Paraportiani is actually made up of five churches, built on top of and next to each other. This is a must see in Mykonos.

PRETTY PHOTO SPOTS

Pretty much EVERYWHERE in Mykonos is super instagrammable. But there are obviously some famous insta photo locations.

What you do need to know is that in Mykonos you won’t find street names and unfortunately I didn’t save the locations but I will try to explain as good as I can how you can find the famous spots! Most of them you will probably find anyway just by wandering around.

BOUGAINVILLEA FLOWERS

You will find these flowers between the shop Balenciaga and the cafe Lalala.

If you want to see the Bougainvillea flowers in full bloom you should visit the island in either May or June. You can find the flowers literally on every corner!

CHORA SHOP

You’ve probably seen this souvenir shop all over the ‘gram. It’s located on a main street with many other shops. You are sure to see this whilst walking around the town.

HAPPINESS HOUSE

https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2ZkQoJ_0XYud3nT00

You will find this insta famous little house at a small square! If you want a nice shot here I can only recommend coming here before the shops open as it gets pretty busy once they open!

SPOTS TO WATCH THE SUNSET

THE WINDMILLS

https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=02VbrD_0XYud3nT00

You will have breathtaking views from the windmills. This is a very popular sunset spot so be prepared for many tourists.

Another great spot to enjoy a drink whilst watching the sunset is 180° Sunset Bar. Although we didn’t have a chance to stop here, I have only heard good things!

CHURCH

We found this church when walking up towards 180° Sunset Bar. Not many people know about this hidden little spot, but this was probably my favourite place in Mykonos to watch the sunset!

I really hope you enjoyed my Mykonos Guide! If you have been to Mykonos and have any suggestions or places that you have been interested in, please let me know and I will make sure I update this guide for everyone!
