Tonight, the last super blue moon until 2037 rises after sunset. A supermoon is a full moon that is closer to the Earth in its orbit. This gives the moon a slightly larger and brighter appearance. The term blue moon refers not to the color of the moon, but to the second full moon to occur during the course of a calendar month. According to NASA, they generally happen once every two to three years.

Here are a few ways to celebrate the appearance of the super blue moon and take advantage of its energy.

Bask in its glow.

Grab a lawn chair and a few friends, and just enjoy the show. Eat cake, dance, laugh, and relish in each other's company. Maybe have a nice meal al fresco. Even if you're alone, feel the moon's beam on your face and think good thoughts.

Let go of things that no longer serve you.

The night of a full moon is always a good time to think about making a new start. Make a list of all the things you want to let go of in your life and vow to move on from them. This is a great way to work on putting an end to habits you want to step away from.

Make plans for the future.

Want to start a new exercise routine or diet regime? The supermoon can be your starting point. Make plans to be more generous with your time and to have more fun. It's a good time to think about volunteering for a worthy cause or planning a vacation you've always wanted to take.

Consider planting a moon garden.

Certain plants flower at night or look beautiful in the light of the moon. The tiny flowers of night-blooming jessamine open up once the sun goes down and have a strong sweet fragrance. Moonflower is a vining perennial that blossoms in the late afternoon. Its large white flowers have a lemony scent and last throughout the night. Also called Queen of the Night, night-blooming cereus blooms at dusk for just one night a year. Look for elongated white bulbs to know when a bloom is coming.

If you get started on your garden now, you might have a few surprises by the time of the next full moon.

Charge water, crystals, and other items.

Fill a jug with water and leave it out overnight beneath the supermoon. Charged moon water is great for watering plants, cleaning your home, or adding to the bath. Do the same with crystals and other items you keep in your home for positive energy. Aligning yourself with the moon this way is a great tool for tapping into an ancient energy current.

You don't have to wait for a super blue moon to do any of these things. Every full moon is a reason to celebrate.
