It's time for the Krewe of Southdowns Mardi Gras Parade!
Happening this Friday, February 17th, the Krewe of Southdowns Mardi Gras parade will roll at 7:00 pm, throughout the Southdowns neighborhood. The family-friendly event will take place rain or shine.
As usual, parade participants will line up on Glasgow Avenue in front of Glasgow Middle Magnet School. The Krewe, various school bands, walking troupes, dance teams, flambeaux, and night-time floats will travel to the end of Glasgow and then turn right onto Whitehaven. Taking a right onto Lee Drive, they will take another right at Hyacinth and then a left at Edinburgh.
On Edinburgh, the parade will go all the way to Arrowhead and turn left. On Arrowhead, they will cross over Lee Drive and continue on to Stuart Avenue where they will turn left again. From Stuart, the parade will cross over Hyacinth and take a right at Whitehaven and then another right onto Stephens.
Where Stephens ends at Hyacinth, the parade will turn left and then right onto Cherrydale, right onto Morning Glory, and then left onto Cloverdale. The parade ends at the Acadian-Perkins Shopping Center on Perkins Road.
In its 36th year, the Krewe of Southdowns Mardi Gras Parade is fun for all ages, and pets are welcome. Streets along the parade route have just been resurfaced, so that should make for a safe and smooth-sailing event. Please remember to keep your pet on a leash and pick up any waste to keep the parade fun for all attendees.
Parade-goers are asked to not park alongside the parade route itself. Off-route parking will be available in area business parking lots.
