Aluminum is a rigid, resourceful metal with numerous advantages. Aluminum can be cast, machined, formed, melted, and extruded, meaning it can be manufactured into various shapes and sizes. This makes it an essential material as it can be molded into shapes when needed. Aluminum is a popular material to use in the engineering industry because it is lightweight and flexible.

Due to its strength and versatility, aluminum is becoming more and more popular worldwide. Although the aluminum extrusion process is a complex procedure, the extrusion can be supplied in various finishes like anodized, painted, or mill and can be fabricated or machined if needed.


Aluminum is known for its lightweight properties, making it a popular choice for many engineering manufacturers. Aluminum is a third of steel's weight, which makes it easier and cheaper to transport.

Since aluminum is corrosion resistant and easy to fabricate, aluminum sheets are firmer and used for projects involving vehicle paneling, kitchen fittings, building claddings, artwork, and other applications.

As mentioned earlier, aluminum is a strong material and can be altered by using other alloying elements to make it even stronger.

Corrosion resistance

Aluminum is a corrosion-resistant metal because it naturally creates a protective coating. The formed coating is fragile and is produced when aluminum encounters the oxidizing environment. The protective aluminum coat is produced to help protect the surface from rusting. Additionally, surface treatment such as anodizing or painting will improve the overall corrosion resistance of the metal.

Electrical and thermal conductivity

Aluminum is an effective conductor of heat and electricity. Though aluminum is not as conductive as copper, it is a third of the weight. This means an aluminum wire with half the weight of a copper one will conduct the same amount of electrical resistance.

Because of this, aluminum is the chosen material for power transmission lines. Aluminum is odorless and non-toxic, therefore is used in food packaging and for sensitive products like pharmaceuticals items. Aluminum foil is approximately 0.0004 to 0.0007mm in thickness and odorless.

Aluminum is an excellent reflector used in light fittings and rescue blankets because of its ability to reflect heat and light. Aluminum is also a great conductor of heat and is used frequently in heatsinks in many applications like computer motherboards, electrical products, LED lights, and more.


Many people think aluminum is not recyclable. However, due to its property, aluminum is 100% recyclable. When aluminum is recycled, it still maintains all its properties. Many big companies like coke use recycled aluminum for their cans because it is recyclable. Coke uses 42% recycled aluminum and 5% new aluminum.

Using a recycled material like aluminum is much cheaper than using a new material, so many businesses will prefer using recycled aluminum in production.

Uses of aluminum in the manufacturing industry

Power lines: Aluminium is ideal for wiring grids, local power distribution lines, and overhead power transmission lines because aluminum has a better weight ratio than copper. Although aluminum has barely half the conductivity of copper, the weight, similar electrical resistance, and less expensive than copper makes it an economic advantage.

High-rise buildings: Since aluminum has a high strength-to-weight ratio, it is a valuable material and the heart of many high-rise buildings and skyscrapers. Aluminum is ideal for the construction industry because of its design flexibility and durability and reduces energy waste. Skyscrapers would be even more costly if the building foundations were primarily steel.

Consumer electronics: Aluminium is used frequently used in the electronic manufacturing industry. Aluminum is used for smartphones, tablets, laptops, computer monitors, flat-screen TVs, and other electrical products.

Aluminum is essential for the electronics industry because aluminum is used to replace plastic and steel, and its primary use is the cooling CPU and graphics processors. The aluminum has excellent heat conductivity, which makes it a popular choice. Newer electronic products feature aluminum bodies and components.

Household and industrial appliances: Aluminium is used in kitchen appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners. They also cater for dryers, dishwashers, other appliances, and aluminum is in the design. Freezing appliances and refrigerators are perfect because they are practical, and the aluminum creates qualities that help the cooling process and make the refrigerator work efficiently.
