Miriam Adelson was born in Tel Aviv on October 10, 1945, to parents who fled Poland before the Holocaust. Multiple family members, including her grandparents, died in the Holocaust. Her dad owned and operated several movie theaters and was very active politically.
She met her husband on a blind date in New York.
She attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Genetics before earning her medical degree from Tel Aviv University. She served as a medical research officer in the Israeli army, where she became interested in drug dependency and the biology of chemical addiction.
In 1986, she attended Rockefeller University in New York to study under a leading researcher on addiction management. While in New York, she met her future husband, Sheldon Adelson, on a blind date. The couple married in 1991.

In 2016, The Adelson family became one of the most prominent donors to conservative causes. They contributed funds to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, presidential inauguration, defense fund against the Muller investigation, and the 2020 campaign.
Recently, Politico reported, "Adelson plans to dole out big checks and be an influential player shaping the future of the Republican party, which over the past decade has reaped more than a half-billion dollars of the family's fortune."
Just this election cycle, she donated $560,000 to two political campaigns in Texas. As a result, both candidates who received cash from her won their elections.
