Las Vegas is one of the most famous cities in the world.

The city is home to more than 650,000 people, none wealthier than Miriam Adelson. The city's median household income exceeds $58,713, and the median property value is about $305,900. However, Miriam Adelson won't know anything about that. Her income is 10000X more than that.

Her net worth exceeds $30 billion, making her the richest person in Nevada. Though Adelson remains unknown to many, she holds tremendous political influence worldwide.

Who is Miriam Adelson?

Miriam Adelson is an Israeli American physician and billionaire. She is the widow of Sheldon Adelson, the former CEO and chairman of casino company Las Vegas Sands.

Miriam Adelson was born in Tel Aviv on October 10, 1945, to parents who fled Poland before the Holocaust. Multiple family members, including her grandparents, died in the Holocaust. Her dad owned and operated several movie theaters and was very active politically.

She met her husband on a blind date in New York.

She attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Genetics before earning her medical degree from Tel Aviv University. She served as a medical research officer in the Israeli army, where she became interested in drug dependency and the biology of chemical addiction.

In 1986, she attended Rockefeller University in New York to study under a leading researcher on addiction management. While in New York, she met her future husband, Sheldon Adelson, on a blind date. The couple married in 1991.

She dedicated her life to helping addicted teens and adults.

She dedicated her life to treating teens and adults addicted to painkillers and heroin. In her interview with Rahel Musleah, Miriam Adelson said,

"This is a segment of the population that does not cry out. They are dejected and weakened, and at my clinics, we give them their lives back. In this field, with every person you save, you save another 20 people around them—their parents, their children, their siblings—even society as a whole."

Miriam Adelson has tremendous political influence.

She became an instant political powerhouse as soon as she married Sheldon Adelson. She has a significant influence on politics because of her ability to bankroll many politicians in the United States and Israel.

In 2016, The Adelson family became one of the most prominent donors to conservative causes. They contributed funds to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, presidential inauguration, defense fund against the Muller investigation, and the 2020 campaign.

Recently, Politico reported, "Adelson plans to dole out big checks and be an influential player shaping the future of the Republican party, which over the past decade has reaped more than a half-billion dollars of the family's fortune."

Just this election cycle, she donated $560,000 to two political campaigns in Texas. As a result, both candidates who received cash from her won their elections.

If you had her money, what causes would you support?
