State Rep. Shri Thanedar Wants Rashida Tlaib's Seat

Democratic former gubernatorial hopeful and multimillionaire Shri Thanedar says he's running for Congress in 2022 for the 13th District seat currently held by Rashida Tlaib.

Thanedar is an immigrant, Ph.D. scientist, entrepreneur, and a family man who grew up in a working-class family. He describes himself as "Dedicated to racial, social and economic equity and justice for all. That means ensuring all Michiganders have access to early-childhood education, equitably funded K-12 schools, higher minimum wage, and affordable healthcare."

Shri Thanedar has been fighting to raise the minimum wage to $15 because he believes that the current minimum wage is not a living wage.

Rashida Tlaib's spokesperson didn't want to comment on Shri Thanedar's campaign to unseat her, saying, "Tlaib is focused on delivering results for the existing 13th District. Because the Michigan Independent Redistricting Commission has not finalized any maps, it would be premature to comment on which District she will seek ."

Shri Thanedar made his wealth in the pharmaceutical industry, an industry that Tlaib speaks against often.

"The industry is expected to break its lobbying record after spending tens of millions of dollars..." They will do anything to stop us from negotiating drug prices. The profiting off of the sick and the dying must end now."

Rashida Tlaib made history in 2018 by becoming the first Arab and Muslim woman elected to Congress. She is a member of the Democratic Socialist of America and a very close confidant of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Defeating Tlaib won't be easy. The entire "Squad" will be backing her up, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts will go the extra mile to make sure that Tlaib continues to champion, "The ambitious climate agenda, healthcare for all Americans and other progressive causes."

Last week, she refused to vote on president Biden's infrastructure bill because it didn't include spending on social programs and climate protection. Rashida's constituents live in one of the most polluted areas in Michigan, and they rely on social programs to make ends meet.

She added, "This bill forces these communities to choose between safe roads and bridges and clean air to breathe, and trading infrastructure dollars for cuts to environmental protection and more fossil fuel subsidies up to $25 billion isn't a deal my community should ever have to face."

Shri Thanedar needs to provide the 13th District with an agenda that is different or better than the Tlaib agenda. She is a fighter for her constituents and doesn't spare any effort to improve their lives.

Last week, she summarized her entire agenda in one Facebook post, "Giving my residents access to the internet is important, but it won't help my residents breathe clean air, drink clean water, put a roof over their head, help care for their children, pay for paid leave or their expensive prescription drugs."

As you can see, Shri Thanedar will have a hard time competing against Rashida Tlaib.

It's entirely unclear what Shri Thanedar's strategy will be, but he will face one of the toughest opponents of his political and business career. Tlaib was attacked by President Donald Trump often, and she capitalized on that by building a brand name for herself and aligned with herself with the "Squad."

Stay tuned. The "Squad" will show in Detroit to fight for her and so many of her constituents that she fights tirelessly for them.
