Local NFL roster update: undrafted rookies from Memphis, Vanderbilt sign with Titans

The 2021 NFL Draft took place nearly a month ago, but rookie updates are still trickling in as teams fill out the edges of their roster with undrafted free agents.

The Tennessee Titans had already signed a handful of undrafted free agents during our first local draft update, but the team has additions to its UDFA lineup for the season, including two prospects from Tennessee schools.

Former Vanderbilt wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb signed with the Titans following the weekend-long rookie minicamp. Lipscomb spent time on the practice squads of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted last season.

During his time with the Commodores, Lipscomb caught 198 passes for 2,356 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Titans also gave a former Memphis quarterback Brady White a spot in the rookie minicamp. Behind starting QB Ryan Tannehill, the Titans already employ a pair of backup options: 2020 backup Logan Woodside, currently on his second stint with the team, and former second-round pick DeShone Kizer, who was signed to the practice squad in November and inked a futures contract in January.

Following an injury-plagued two years at Arizona State, White finished his three-year career at Memphis with 10,690 yards and 90 touchdowns. The 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy recipient has a decent chance at making the final roster or the practice squad.

The two Titans signees weren’t the only local prospects that earned a training camp invite recently. Former Vanderbilt defensive back LaDarius Wiley, who was cut by the Titans after going undrafted in 2019, signed a rookie deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Prince Momodu, a running back at both Austin Peay and Brentwood Academy, inked a deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

There was also an unfortunate incident where it came to light that former Austin Peay and Maplewood safety Juantarius Bryant’s rookie minicamp invite from the Atlanta Falcons was faked.

Tennessee State, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, UT-Chattanooga, UT-Martin, and ETSU still have not had anyone sign as an undrafted free agent as of yet. Check back for more roster updates later this summer.
