NFL players have begun to fight back against the possible mandatory requirements of vaccinations, with some of them holding firm to the idea that they should be able to do what they want to do with their own bodies, or what they feel as though will be safest for them. As a result of NFL players refusing to get vaccinated, they have begun to have their sponsorships given to them revoked. This is something that the Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has unfortunately had to learn.

The lead up to Rodgers losing his internship had been a series of events, rather than a sudden event on the quarterback. Rodgers had tested positive last week during one of his daily testings put in place by the NFL, causing him to sit out of the game. Once the period of time for him to stay away from the games had begun, Rodgers spoke up, revealing that he had not been vaccinated yet, along with it being revealed that he had been allegedly following an individualized regime to mitigate the chances of him catching the virus without having to get the vaccination. As a result of this information coming out about the quarterback, Rodgers had ended up losing a nine-year sponsorship that he had been involved in with Prevea Health. Prevea Health’s reasoning for withdrawing the sponsorship with Aaron Rodgers is due to their personal goals of encouraging everyone within the eligible populations and groups to get their vaccination in order to fight against the spread of the virus.

Rodgers claims that he had made his decision to not get vaccinated due to medical consultations and warnings against the side effects and what could happen to his body as a result, not due to accusations and assumptions of him being an anti-vaxxer. Rodgers believes that he was being a critical thinker when it came to the state of his health, rather than trying to do something to harm himself. He was worried about if he’d been allergic to one of the ingredients in the vaccine, as well as the rumors of fertility issues amongst those who have received the vaccine.

"I believe strongly in bodily autonomy and ability to make choices for your body."

Many pages that reported on the decision called Rodgers arrogant and entitled, with some people accusing the quarterback of being an anti-vaxxer. Sports columnist Christine Brennan also accused Rodgers of being a liar and self-absorbed due to his refusal to do what he can to help mitigate the spread of the virus.

Despite the attacks towards Rodgers for his decision, State Farm has chosen to stand by the quarterback, stating that while they do not support some of his comments towards the vaccine, they do respect that Rodgers has the right to his own point of view when it comes to what he would like to do for himself and the vaccine. Despite that, State Farm has significantly cut back on the amount of advertisements and commercials that had featured Rodgers in them. Previously, Rodgers had been showcased in 25% of the advertisements sent out by State Farm, which had been significantly reduced to only 1% of their advertisements.

“Aaron Rodgers has been a great ambassador for our company for much of the past decade. We don’t support some of the statements that he has made, but we respect his right to have his own personal point of view. We recognize our customers, employees, agents and brand ambassadors come from all walks of life, with differing viewpoints on many issues. Our mission at State Farm is to support safer, stronger communities. To that end, we encourage vaccinations, but respect everyone’s right to make a choice based on their personal circumstances.”

Aaron Rodgers Sponsorship Affects NFL Decision Making

Rodgers, however, is not the only athlete to have lost healthcare sponsorships due to their view on the vaccine. A Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Kirk Cousins, had also lost his sponsorships with the Holland Hospital after his own vaccination status had been revealed to the public.

Other NFL players have remained relatively silent on the subject, choosing to not comment on the current status or assumptions that are being made about other players. According to the chief medical officer of the NFL, 94% of NFL players currently have their vaccinations. Allegedly, they are currently working on getting that percentage to a solid 100% across the board. The average in teams is 95%, with a handful of teams, such as the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have hit their goal of 100% vaccinations.

Some of those fighting for their ability to speak up for their own opinions on the vaccine believe that the risk of losing their sponsorships is worth it, because there will always be someone out there who will allow for them to remain in a place that they would prefer to be in. This is especially true due to the fact that many of the players have adamantly refused the vaccine in a public setting, with some using unproven reasoning behind their decisions to their advantage.

Allegedly, the NFL had considered making vaccinations mandatory earlier this year, but the idea had been shot down through the players union and the fact that they don’t want to put locked into the requirement to continue doing their games. Instead, players must now go through daily testing, even on their days off, so that they may remain healthy while unvaccinated. They also put regulations on the players when they go to away games that they are not allowed to leave their hotel rooms when they are not playing.

As a result of the issues surrounding the vaccinations and how they should go about them, there is a worry that it will begin to affect the 2022 Super Bowl, due to the Super Bowl being based within Los Angeles. Los Angeles currently has a mandate for those who enter any form of stadium to have a proof of vaccination and a test that came back negative.

13-Year Old Illinois Girl Missing Since 1996 Disappeared from Home Featured on America's Most Wanted

Rachel Marie Mellon was 13 when she disappeared on January 31, 1996 from her home in Bolingbrook, Illinois. She was staying home from school that Wednesday due to her sore throat. Her mother, Amy Mellon, kissed her daughter goodbye for the day and went off to work. That was the last time she saw Rachel. When Amy got back from work at 5, Rachel was not in the house at all. Her stepfather, Vince Mellon, was home all day and told his wife that he didn’t know Rachel wasn’t home. Vince told the police that he played Nintendo with Rachel that afternoon and she fell asleep at 2:30 on the couch. He covered her with a blanket and went to take their dog Duke on a walk, leaving the front door unlocked. Vince said he got back to the house later than he wanted because Duke broke his grip on the leash to chase a rabbit. He left the dog to find its own way home and reached the house at 3. Rachel was not on the couch sleeping when he got back. Her stepfather assumed she was resting in her room and went about his day, which included a neighbor returning Duke. Said neighbor didn’t report seeing anything suspicious. The police noticed scratches on Vince when they arrived and he answered that he hurt himself while fixing his car. Gone with Rachel were two pillows and the blue blanket, but no warmer clothes than the t-shirt, sweatpants, and house slippers she was wearing. It was -20 degrees that day and a fear that wherever Rachel was, she wouldn’t make it for long in house clothes. Rachel’s little sister came home from school around 3:15 and could not find her older sister in her room, but did not mention this until her mother came home and they all noticed her missing.
