New Year’s Eve comes around once a year. This year, whether we like it or not, we’re going to have to celebrate the new year at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But that doesn’t mean the evening has to be boring and uneventful. With a little creativity, you can have a whole lot of fun with your friends and family, virtually, that is. Here are some super easy ways to have a blast on New Year’s Eve from home.
Make a spread
Tantalize your taste buds this New Year’s Eve. Consider making different appetizers and snacks with a few simple items from the grocery store. For example, buy a frozen pizza, heat it up and cut it into bite-size squares. Add buffalo wings from the supermarket deli, nachos and dip, sliders, cookies, and even ice cream sandwiches. You only ring in the new year once, so don’t worry about the calories. Just enjoy the different flavors as you kiss this past year goodbye.
Get dressed up
New Year’s Eve is a special occasion, so it’s really important to dress up. Wear something over-the-top to get your friends and family talking. Did you get married recently? If you really liked your wedding outfits, wear those. You can also wear sparkly evening wear or break out your Halloween costumes to make things interesting. Don’t forget makeup and accessories. Once you’re all dressed up, take selfies and lots of group shots with whoever is with you at home to share with your loved ones who are far away.
Plan activities
You’ll need things to do to pass the time before the ball drops. Play a cheesy board game, have a dance party, or watch a movie marathon. When it comes to planning New Year’s Eve activities, it’s important for everyone to agree on the activities you choose, because you want everyone to have a good time.
Set up a Zoom call for friends and family
Under normal circumstances, we would all be visiting one another, gathering at church, or just hanging out in the streets to ring in the new year. These aren’t normal circumstances, but there is something you can do to bring your loved ones together.
Zoom is a popular video conferencing app, but you certainly don’t have to use Zoom for your virtual get-together on New Year’s Eve. Alternatives to Zoom include Google Hangouts Meet, Skype, and join.me. Make sure you contact everyone you would like to be on the call in advance and share a link to the get-together.
To make your virtual New Year’s Eve family meeting fun, you might, for example, send everyone a recipe or two for your favorite food or beverage. Ask everyone to make their own version and share the results. This can be a great ice breaker and get everyone laughing and talking fast.
Watch an online streaming broadcast
Watching the ball drop is the most fun part of New Year’s Eve. Several A-list celebrities such as BTS, Dua Lipa, and Steve Aoki will host live New Year’s Eve parties online. You and your friends and family will be able to watch the ball drop while dancing along with DJs live streaming from countries around the world, including the United States, Scotland, and Iceland.
The greatest thing about having a New Year’s Eve party at home is that the party doesn’t take a lot of time to plan. You can set up the whole event in less than one hour and spend the rest of the day relaxing while you wait for the new year and better days ahead. #nbholidaycheer
