ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - Just after 10 PM on Friday, May 26, 2023, the Rockford Fire Department responded to a reported fire at a home in the 3200 block of Sunnyside Drive. The fire was located near the intersection of Sunnyside Drive and Pleasant Valley Blvd in Rockford, Illinois. The fire started in the garage and then extended into the central part of the home. According to fire officials with the Rockford Fire Department, they were able to put the fire out quickly, but fire crews remained on the scene working on hot spots within the central part of the home through about midnight. Parts of both Sunnyside Drive and Pleasant Valley Blvd were temporarily closed as fire officials worked to fight the fire.
Fire officials with the Rockford Fire Department reported that all the home residents were able to get out, and there were no injuries to report from any of the house residents. One firefighter with the Rockford Fire Department was said to have minor injuries from battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time, but fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The garage was significantly damaged due to the fire, with heavy damage extending into the central part of the home. According to WTVO news in Rockford, Illinois, the estimated damages to the garage and house due to the fire is around $90,000.
