EAGAN, MINNESOTA - Just before 5:30 PM on Monday, May 16, 2023, a vehicle fire was reported on southbound I-35E in Eagan, Minnesota, near Yankee Doodle Road and Pilot Knobb Road, during the middle of rush hour that caused some travel headaches for the evening commute on Monday. Using the Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras, we were able to locate the vehicle in the far left lane of southbound I-35E between Lone Oak Road and Yankee Doodle Road. The Eagan Fire Department, Eagan Police Department, and Minnesota Department of Transportation were called out and responded to this car fire. The left lane was shut down due to the fire, causing traffic to back up on southbound I-35E, with the fire occurring during rush hour.
Eagan Fire Department personnel arrived at the vehicle fire scene quickly and extinguished the fire. At this time, we do not know the cause of the vehicle fire, but we are happy to report no injuries reported as a result of the vehicle fire. Eagan Fire Crews were able to have the fire out and cleared the scene of the vehicle fire around 5:55 PM, about a half hour later. The far left lane of southbound I-35E reopened a few minutes later, following a local tow crew taking the vehicle from the scene.
