Secure your key-turn start Kia and Hyundai with free steering wheel locks from the Apple Valley Police Department

Limitless Media

APPLE VALLEY - The Apple Valley Police Department announced on Wednesday that they are giving away free steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia vehicle owners with key-turn ignitions. Both vehicle manufacturers donated the steering wheel locks for this theft prevention program to counter the increase in thefts of these vehicles.

The steering wheel locks will be available to pick up at the Apple Valley Police Department Lobby located at 7100 147th St W, Apple Valley, MN 55124, during regular business hours, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. To receive the lock, you must provide proof of vehicle ownership. Only one lock will be issued per vehicle owner.

If you own a push-button start Kia or Hyundai, you are not eligible to receive a free steering wheel lock in this theft prevention program as push-button start Kia and Hyundai vehicles are not being impacted by the current crime trend.

The Apple Valley Police Department would also like to make the public aware that both manufacturers have initiated free anti-theft software upgrades for any Kia or Hyundai vehicles affected by the current crime trend. According to Hyundai, nearly 4 million vehicles are eligible for the free upgrade, including the models listed below:
