Traffic is awful.
Whether you are someone who lives in Atlanta or has simply come here to visit, I am sure that you have experienced the tragedy of Atlanta traffic. We used to believe that "rush hour" was the main issue and that leaving the house during peak hours would help us to save time, but nowadays, time is not even the issue and 1 pm versus 5 pm are pretty much the same when it comes to sitting in traffic. There are certain areas that you specifically have to watch out for. For example, downtown Atlanta‘s traffic is pretty much consistent, as is Interstate 285, and I-85. You might ask why that is. Unfortunately, there is no true answer because a lot of times while you are sitting in traffic, assuming that there may be construction or some sort of accident that has traffic so backed up, that is usually not the case, and once you get past the traffic, there is usually no reason for the traffic.
Crime rates are increasing.
Crime rates are increasing. When you ask someone who has relocated from other states why they decided to relocate to Atlanta, a lot of times their answers are the fact that they needed to move someplace safe, and though there are a lot of safe suburbs on the outskirts of Atlanta, Atlanta is actually not as safe as some might think it is. With a crime rate of 45 per one thousand residents, Atlanta's crime rate is steadily increasing. Crimes such as car thefts, robberies, and assaults are the main crimes that you see. Scamming has also been known to be a sport for a lot of individuals that live here. Have you ever heard that saying to not use your credit or debit card at the gas station because people are copying your card numbers? Yup, that is indeed a thing. So beware, lock your doors, and be careful with how you spend your money while here in Atlanta.
Rental properties are limited.
I am sure that you all have heard of the unrealistic requirements that apartments and houses here in Atlanta have for one to rent, but trust me when I say, it is that bad. In order for you to afford Atlanta and to live comfortably, you have to make a pretty decent salary. If you do not fall into a certain tax bracket, then unfortunately, your options for a place to live are not that high and you are more than likely going to have to settle. In 2022, the housing market is at an all-time high and people are working twice as hard to have a place to lay their heads. Atlanta is a great place to live, with so much opportunity and so much to do, but know that there is a high ticket price for that lifestyle if you plan on settling here.
Southern hospitality is nonexistent.
We are all aware of that saying that people from down south are just as friendly as apple pie, but unfortunately, that is not all that true. In fact, business ratings are decreasing throughout the Atlanta area due to poor customer service. Though coming across welcoming people in Atlanta is quite common, coming across people with poor people skills is also common. But remember to not take anything personally and to remain friendly no matter what.
