NASHVILLE, TN - Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has tested positive for COVID-19 and since Sunday he has been in quarantine at home away from the team. But, this doesn't mean that he missed all the action in the training camp, and via Zoom conference call, he shared updates from the squad before the final preseason game.
The Titans will play against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, Aug. 28 in the Nissan Stadium. This will be the last preseason game that they play before they head into the kickoff of the 2021 NFL regular season. Unfortunately, Vrabel will not be available on the sideline on Saturday, as of Thursday, Aug. 26, he still hasn't tested negative. He plans to watch the game from home and he will be evaluating the players.
Another coach who can't be with the team on Saturday is special team coordinator Craig Aukerman. Aukerman is currently in the COVID-19 protocol and has missed two practices. Despite all of that, Vrabel said that he was very happy with the team that is currently 97% vaccinated. According to the head coach, the vaccine his symptoms significantly less.
In the preseason finale, Vrabel and his staff will keep an eye very close to all the players who take the field. Vrabel said that this is the last chance for some players to perform if they want to make the 53-man roster. Quarterback Matt Barkley will start under center, with fellow back-up Logan Woodside will also have a chance to play.
News broke earlier that seven players have been placed into the Reserve/COVID-19 list, including starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. In response to this news, Vrabel said that they have a football team ready to play. Whoever ready to step up will play and coach on Saturday.
