Several Eastern Washington Schools and some in Oregon were placed into lockdown yesterday when a caller stating that they would be entering one of the schools to shoot people called the local Sheriff’s department.
Later that same day, another call was made in which someone stated that they were hiding in a bathroom and someone was shooting at them. This was later proven to be a fake call as well. Regardless, schools were put into lockdown which means that no one is allowed to enter or leave the school facility.
Parents were notified of the incident via a phone call recording. This left a lot of frustrated parents who demanded to know what was going on with their children and their children’s schools. Multiple agencies responded quickly to the various schools but it was later determined that there was no threat.
Deputies quickly searched the schools in question to ensure that there was no credible threat. They were unable to find any shooter or any signs of a shooter.
The lockdown was lifted at around 3:00 pm and busses and parents were able to pick the children up to deliver them home safely. The school districts want to thank all of the law enforcement agencies that were quickly mobilized to protect and secure the premises and keep everyone safe.
Students were cooperative and tried to console one another through the incident. Authorities want to assure the students and parents that all threats are taken seriously and will be fully investigated to ensure the safety of students, staff, and other persons on school property.
