NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson, amongst many other notable celebs, will touch down in Dallas on Saturday August 20th for the inaugural Dallas Celeb Fashion Awards to take place at The Statler Hotel. Honoring celebrities and designers who were (and are) at the helm of iconic black labels, the star-studded gala will feature a high-energy fashion show featuring the honored brands: Karl Kani, Dapper Dan, Baby Phat, and FUBU. Many of the founders and representatives from the legendary brands will be in attendance.
"I created this star-studded event to honor black celebrities with iconic brands, to showcase black designers, and to pay homage to fashion icons," said Dallas Celeb Fashion Awards Creator Lisa Stroud. "Let's celebrate how they didn't wait for a seat at the table -- they built their own."
In addition to a celebrity clad fashion show where entertainers and artists will take to the runway, the event will also pay homage to the late fashion designer Virgil Abloh as well as to notable fashion editor and globally renowned icon, the late Andre' Leon Talley -- for all of their contributions to not only fashion, but to the African-American community.
The Black Diamond Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Magic Johnson, with additional honors doled out to the participating designer brands. Many other surprises are planned for the larger than life event, which is a first of its kind for the city of Dallas. The fashion show and awards will be emceed by Titia Owens and comedian Griff (also Co-Host of Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell), with the red carpet hosted by EMMY award-winning host, Ro Parrish.
Tickets begin at $150 and can be purchased at DallasCelebFashionAward.com.
