Education is one of the most limitless ideologies.

There is no cap on the amount of information that we, as individual's can consume. Learning happens consistently, whether it be sought after knowledge or not, we are constantly absorbing new information. We may not always retain new information, but it was heard and processed all the same. However, what good is this knowledge if are never given the opportunity to apply it? Obion County Central High School in Troy, TN has partnered with its local businesses to have a job fair so that when students graduate, they are graduating with the connections necessary to be sure they are applying the knowledge that they have gained over the years.

For a few years now, OCCHS has hosted a job fair for Juniors and Seniors to have an opportunity to speak with local Obion County employers and businesses. The OCCHS Job Fair included a wide array of possible career choices for students. Corteva (Pioneer), differing military branches, the Coca-Cola plant in Union City, Discovery Park of America, Titan Tire, Williams Sausage, Tyson, local banks, local cosmetology options, and radio stations were only just some of whom that were in attendance. In all, there were around 40 different businesses hosted by the high school.

These businesses set up their booths in the library at OCCHS and talk to students about general education and skill requirements necessary to land a job in a field students may be interested in. Through this experience, students are given the opportunity to make some local connections and gain experience in speaking professionally to potential employers. Some seniors sometimes may even be given a list of final steps to pursue so that they can be hired immediately after graduation for temporary summer position/internship, or the possibility of a more long-term position. While the experience was held by Obion County Central High School, students from South Fulton High School even had the opportunity to be involved and attend. OCCHS seniors were also given the opportunity to work on resume building with the high school's English teachers.
