ATLANTA, GA — Emory University will reopen its fitness center on July 1.

Following this decision, Emory employees will have access to all Atlanta campus athletic facilities.

The facilities are the Woodruff PE Center (WPEC), Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC), and Blomeyer Health Fitness Center.

Membership is required, and all of the facilities will be implement certain restrictions and limitations. These restrictions aim to assure the safety and well-being of all patrons.

In addition, employees who work at Oxford College can also use their weight room and the gym.

“We’re very excited to begin welcoming employees back this summer. For many employees, our facilities are more than just a gym — they help create the vibrant and thriving in-person community that makes Emory special,” said Walter Kolis, associate director of recreation and athletic facilities.

In order to keep everyone safe, every facility has worked in conjunction with Emory’s Environmental Health and Safety Office to build a multifaceted approach for reopening.

This summer, all three facilities will have reduced hours of use. An appointment may be needed to use certain programs or areas.

“Now more than ever, physical activity is a critical component for managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as many employees begin returning to work on campus. We’ve received feedback from our members that they are prepared to return to the Blomeyer as long as safety precautions are in place,” said Jim Jadallah, senior wellness manager for Healthy Emory.

Employees who buy a membership in July for the WPEC, SAAC, or Blomeyer will get the month of July for free at that facility as a bonus.
