In recent years, there has been a growing debate over the issue of transgender people using bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. This debate has been particularly heated in the context of schools.

A viral video going around social media depicting a fight between a transgender and female student at Riverside's Martin Luther King High School sparked outrage among parents, prompting the school board district to hold a meeting Thursday.

Students and parents expressed their concern about this transgender students history of engaging in multiple fights with biological girls and they are concerned for their girls safety.

I am a concerned parent. My daughter is one of the girls there at Martin Luther King Jr. That has been bullied by this male that is causing chaos, bullying these girls and putting them through things that shouldn't this school should have kept them safe. And I feel like Martin Luther King have failed to do that to keep our girls safe. And I also want to address that the women's space as well.I don't believe that a male identifying as a female should be allowed in the women's restroom or the lockers room as well. If you have male body parts, you're still considered as a male no matter what mentally you're thinking. So I also want to address as well, one of the other students parents said that it took so long for the school to act on so many occasions. There were so many incidents prior to this incident happening. And like another parent has said, prior to me, what does it have to take? Does it have to take a tragic, serious, severe injury or a death in our schools? Who's to blame for then? If something like that were to take place, you guys would be to blame for an incident like that because you guys chose not to take this incident seriously when things were already brought to the school's attention. I just feel like you guys need to step up your game and add more security and do things the right way. And like they say, male is a male and female is a female. We should all be in our own spaces. Thank you.- (Source)

The transgender student is alleged to have assaulted a girl after exposing genitals and spitting at girls in the girls locker room. The Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) put out a statement saying the trans-identifying student is no longer attending MLK:

"Since the incident occurred, District staff has been working to ensure the safety and rights of all students are considered and promptly responded to. We are able to verify that the student involved will no longer be attending King High School", the statement read.
