This may sound like a pure rant but really how ridiculous is it that while all types of suffering is going on in this world that there are entities purchasing and developing virtual real estate?

I’m not going to pretend that I know and understand the Metaverse concept fully but what I have learned is that people are purchasing virtual land parcels in a fake reality for large sums of money.

One of the largest purchases so far was 4.3 million dollars by Republic Realm from videogame publisher Atari SA.

What is the Metaverse

The metaverse is a hypothesized iteration of the Internet, supporting persistent online 3-D virtual environments through conventional personal computing, as well as virtual and augmented reality headsets- Wikipedia

Mark Zuckerberg in his Metaverse reveal talked about bringing people together. But does a virtual (fake) digital space really do that?

Or is it a hideout for those who in real life are socially distant-awkward, loners, and outcasts?

Technology is severely limiting our character as human beings. To a great extent, we no longer have to have patience, hard labor, physically socializing, be self-sufficient, learning the hard way, etc. It seriously takes away from any human effort or desire to test ourselves and endure hardships with many things we would otherwise learn greatly from. A seriously over-looked phenomenon that will bring us to our grave. -Wesley K

People are trying to escape into perpetual augmented reality, and it seems pathologic to me. Living your life in a parallel universe as seen through a headset.

We should make life more meaningful in our endeavors.

How do we justify having homeless veterans and those genuinely in need on the streets-while companies and investors spend millions developing augmented reality?

It’s one thing to go online and play games and socialize or interact through messages etc. but the Metaverse seems to want to replace reality altogether.

“The metaverse’s ultimate aim is not just virtual reality or augmented reality, it’s mixed reality (MR). It’s blending the digital and the real world together. Ultimately this blend may be so good, and so pervasive, that the virtual and the real become indistinguishable. And the market for that is gigantic. Whoever controls it, will basically have control over your entire reality. “-Dr. David Reid to the NY Post

Homeless in the real world

In the U.S at any given time there are an estimated 600,000 homeless. Of which an estimated 11% are homeless veterans.

I was looking at apartment prices in California and a 1 Bedroom will run you $2000 and up. If you’re lucky enough to be able to find 2 or 3 jobs to work, you might be able to swing it.

I just think before we start developing space and augmented universes that we should work on the human condition and experience in the real world.

In my opinion the Metaverse, for many reasons, is an insidious slap on the face to humanity.

I already feel Facebook with all it's bots and spam is augmented reality enough for me.
