One of the things I enjoy about the food tour is learning the origins of different types of food. On today’s stop we’ll visit Louisiana cuisine by way of Sharon’s Creole Kitchen in Murrieta.

Louisiana Creole cuisine is a style of cooking originating in Louisiana, United States, which blends West African, French, Spanish, Amerindian influences, as well as influences from the general cuisine of the Southern United States.

The Restaurant

Sharon’s has a nice location in the Village Walk Plaza. There is cozy indoor seating, as well as, an outdoor patio dining area.

The eatery opened just prior to the pandemic shut down, yet the restaurant has managed to garner support, and, on the day, I visited, seemed busy.

Sharon's Creole Kitchen caters to an eclectic clientele in which our restaurant strives to make available many popular dishes that Louisiana is known for (and the south in general) such as gumbo, jambalaya, fried chicken, fried fish, po boys, collard greens, mac n cheese plus so much more.-Sharon's Creole Kitchen

The Food

The menu has a variety of authentic Louisiana flavors. I sampled quite a few items including the seafood gumbo, jambalaya, fried chicken, and fried red snapper.

The fried fish fillet was well prepared, crisp, and delicious It was nicely golden and brown.

The gumbo had a dark roux with vegetables, chicken, sausage, shrimp, and crab legs served over rice. It was rich and tasty.

The Jambalaya was good tasting, mild, flavorful, and hearty. It was served with rice and a cornbread muffin.

I was a little disappointed in ‘Sharon’s Famous Fried Chicken’. I was expecting something outstanding because of it being billed as “famous”, but it tasted very regular to me. In fact it just tasted like frying oil mostly.

I let someone else try a wing and they commented that it tasted like the chicken you buy at Stater Brothers deli.

The sides were awesome! The macaroni and cheese had great texture and taste and very much reminded me of what I am used to in my own family. It's in the top 1 or 2 that I have eaten so far in the Inland Empire.

The greens had a strong flavor and very large leaves that could have been chopped better for ease of eating/chewing.

The owner came by with a sample of cornbread dressing and creamed corn that were delicious! I believe she was testing it for the special Thanksgiving menu.

Impression and EATER scoring

The dining experience overall was very pleasant. The place was clean and smelled good inside, and the patio was a pleasant place for a meal.

The staff were friendly. Sharon’s earns a 9/10 across the EATER scorecard and I would recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant is located at 24530 Village Walk Pl Suite A, Murrieta, CA 92562
