Authorities are still investigating the tragedy that occurred at the Astroworld Festival which left 8 dead and hundreds injured in what is being called a massive crowd surge.

When Travis Scott took the stage a rush of people crowded into those already up front, closer to the stage, and created a tight vacuum whereas some people were not able to move or to breathe.

Travis Scott reaction:

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” “My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.” -Travis Scott

Drakes reaction

“I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can, May God be with you all.”- DRAKE

Lawsuits

Reports of lawsuits being filed naming both performers have been announced.

Also the venue and Live Nation have been named in lawsuits, and indeed should be if the venue was unsafe, understaffed or otherwise out of ordinance for an event of that size.

Should the entertainers themselves be sued?

From the video it appeared that Travis was performing, and there has not been a clip released yet where he or anyone else encouraged “crowd mayhem”.

Pundits have brought up the fact that in 2017 Travis had indeed done just that and was charged with inciting his own crowd.

On May 13, 2017, Jaques Webster, aka Travis Scott, was arrested by the Rogers Police Department after his performance at the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion (AMP). During the concert Webster encouraged people to rush the stage and bypass the security protocols to ensure concert goer safety. -Rogers Police Department

It remains to be seen who will ultimately be held responsible for the situation as the investigation is still in its early stages.

Do you think the performers were responsible for the crowd surge? Leave comments below.
