SURFS UP at OCEANSIDE PIER CALIFORNIA -June 23, 2021-Lashaun Turner-

Oceanside is one of our local gems on California's South Coast, in Northern San Diego County. During the pandemic a lot of construction and transformation took place. It is no longer just a place known for it's pier where locals who like a quick beach stop hang out. Oceanside Beach is becoming a major tourist attraction with the addition of several luxury resort hotels and rentals going up in the area.

I had an opportunity to stay at Club Wyndham and I'll be sharing my thoughts on the accomodations, plus introducing you to two brand new places in the Oceanside Beach Pier area.

Hotel Website Description:

Situated across from the longest active pier in California, this seaside hotel and resort rental property is an ideal destination for a memorable beach vacation with the family, calming ocean escape or romantic weekend away. 333 N. Myers St., Oceanside , CA 92054

I stayed at Club Wyndham to get a firsthand experience of Oceanside Pier and Beach. The Hotel location is perfect, just steps away from the pier. The staff were very accommodating, courteous, and helpful. I was allowed to check in a full 3 hours early. I rented a 1 Bedroom Condo that was clean, spacious, and modern, situated on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool.

Room features included a full kitchen with appliances, plus washer & dryer. To my surprise the bathroom had a huge, jetted spa tub which was wonderful to relax in. There were plenty of electrical outlets and USB ports on the nightstand. The balcony was situated nicely and although it was a “partial view” it was excellent.

There is an adjacent restaurant, and, food options in the area are plentiful as more shops and eateries are in walking distance, or you can bring your own and cook in the well-appointed kitchen.

The Club Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort is affordable and a excellent place for you and your family to stay for quick access to the beach.

Oceanside Pier and Beach

The walkway to the pier is literally just across the street from Club Wyndham. Oceanside pier is a 1,942-foot-long iconic landmark. Locals and tourists enjoy and utilize the wooden pier all year long to take leisurely strolls, go fishing, watch surfers and sea birds, plus there is a restaurant at the very end.

Walking back towards the street side of the pier – and to the right is a kid’s jungle gym-playground which makes this beach a particular favorite for kids.

What's new

In addition to new food vendors on the strand itself, two new hotels have opened up in the area in the last several weeks. Mission Pacific and The Seabird, which are both Hyatt hotels.

Mission Pacific boasts a Rooftop Bar, the High/Low Cafe, and Valle restaurant by Chef Roberto Alcocer. 201 N. Myers St. Oceanside, California, 92054. The hotel website description says:

Stunning architecture. Southern California living. Inspired dining. Rooftop bar with sweeping views of the Pacific. Swimming. Surfing. Biking. And more. Just steps from the beach. Discover a sanctuary at Oceanside Beach, a distinct coastal playground where the best of San Diego’s North Shore is right outside your door.

The SEABIRD features a Spa, Restaurant and a Mixology Bar: 101 Mission Ave, Oceanside, California 92054 . The hotel website description says:

A contemporary twist on the classic seaside resort experience. Beautiful ocean estate architecture. Grand pool deck. Fine dining. Luxury spa. Bespoke service. All set directly on the beach

A representative who manned the beachside rentals for the the New Hyatt owned Hotels told me both of their new buildings have been open for business a couple of weeks now, and stated that business so far has been good and in general things seem to be getting back to normal in the community.

During the pandemic much of the area around was closed due to construction, and parking was limited due to both construction and the restrictions on gatherings at the beach. As we were talking, we noticed a group from the Parks & Recreation services were gathering a group of youngsters for surf lessons, an activity you would not have seen during the pandemic.

A mask here and there were really the only signs of the lingering effects from the pandemic. Mostly I noticed people had their masks at the ready, in their hands, under their chin, etc., as opposed to having it on.

With the addition of luxury resort style hotels, new restaurants and vendors, Oceanside Beach Pier has become a legitimate destination location.
