High school student argues with teacher, both eventually square up
An eyebrow raising viral video has been making rounds on social media showing a student engaging in a physical conflict with a teacher at Golden Valley High School in Merced, California. The incident occurred during 5th period on a Friday, and has raised concerns about student and staff safety in the school district.

The video, which has been recorded from different angles, shows the student approaching the teacher and shoving him repeatedly.
The teacher can be heard asking the student to back up, but the student continues to escalate the situation by pushing the teacher forcefully. In response, the teacher throws a clipboard at the student, and the action escalates with the student throwing punches at the teacher.
The teacher then appears to try and hold the student in a headlock until the student surrenders. It is unclear what led to the altercation, and the district says that “the entire story of what happened may not be apparent.”
The Merced Union High School District has taken the incident seriously and conducted a thorough investigation. In addition, a police report has been filed, and corrective action has been taken. While it is unclear if the teacher has been fired, several TikTok videos are circulating, calling for justice for the substitute teacher.

Possible surge in Denver overdose deaths could mean dangerous drug supply
A possible surge in overdose deaths in Denver could indicate some irregularities in the street drug supply, Harm Reduction Action Center warned Monday. The Denver Post reported there have been a dozen outdoor deaths in March in Denver, including nine in a nine-day stretch. “Over the past month, there have been a lot of reported overdoses in Denver being responded to with naloxone by people who use drugs, services providers, and around the Colorado State Capitol,” HRAC Executive Director Lisa Raville said in the needle exchange’s newsletter Monday. “Over the past couple of weeks, we started noticing the public death posts on social media and then multiple sources from the city reached out to let us know they were overdose related. We alerted HRAC participants and other service providers for quick communication. Unfortunately, many in the city have expressed that we will need to wait for weeks and months before they will officially determine these deaths as overdoses. That is incredibly frustrating as we need real time information of the drug supply and the names of those we have lost.”
